    Hi Dave

Thank you for that link. I had been reading something that said it could be viral or bacterial caused by overhead watering and high temps. Whilst we were away last week the house/cat sitter watered with the hose (I water directly into the pot) and our temps have been around 26 degrees.

Here are the offending leaves ... left side front, right side underside ... I must say it only appears to have affected the older leaves ...

Probably no connection, but the Bay tree next to it doesn't look too healthy either ...

Just bringing this forward ... any ideas anyone? Should I be doing something? ... if so, what? ... the fruit is healthy and soon to be ripening.

Any advice gratefully appreciated .... :ntwrth:

Well I've looked at all my books and I'm stumped for a definitive diagnosis.
The fact that they are small spots tends to make me think 'insect damage' but the only insects I've had on toms are whitefly and greenfly. The only other things I can think of are tomato leaf mould, it is brought on in moist warm conditions, but that tends to show up in larger patches and yours looks punctated, the final and to my mind most likely possibility is a tomato virus.

Just came on to shut down and saw your answer, Dave. Thank you ... I think ....

I often have tiny 'money' spiders around but only had a smidgen of whitefly on my 6 foot Sunseeker climbing rose (ex-18 inch patio rose) the opposite side of the garden a month ago, now thankfully eradicated.

The moist (ie, watering from overhead as I mentioned) and warm (yes, it has been, again 26 today) conditions could be the problem. Hopefully this can be remedied by myself now that I am back and hopefully in control.

A tomato virus ... on a plant that was healthy and survived the winter on its own .... :cnfs: I don't think it was having hanky-panky with another tomato plant from afar ... perhaps with the nearby ailing Bay tree .... :lollol:

Thank you again ... I'll keep a close eye on things and report back in due course.

This particular plant having survived the winter, having it's stem snapped at the base in a storm and consequently splintered, suffering an invasion of giant ants and last but not least developing spots on its leaves, I picked and ate the first ripened tomatoes this morning ... sweeeet! :)
