"Cant say as I like mangoes much"

Have you eaten one fresh from the tree [in a tropical country]? Different kettle of fish to the ones picked unripe, and shipped to ripen en-route to the UK supermarkets. IMHO they don't travel, and a blazing row arises when I find a supermarket-bought one in the fridge !!!!

Yup, I had a decent stint in S.E. Asia and it was a great place for Papaya, Mango, and lots of other tropical fruits. Pineapple I quite like from the Supermarket, but the rest I can leave.

Mangoes are always tastier when they have been picked freshly ripe but the different varieties have a vast difference in flavour.

I have a fresh mango every morning for breakfast :thumb:. I would guess that the mangoes on special offer from ALDI are 'Tommy Atkins'. They are usually the cheapest - reasonable flavour but stringy texture (but makes no difference if you are buying to grow from seed and is one of the fastest growing varieties). One of the tastiest varieties is 'Alphonse'.

:gnthb: Kristin you are so right, there is nothing like picking tropical fruit from the tree & eating it.. We share a Mango tree in our garden in Jamaica & there is nothing I like better than to pick one & eat it.. There is nothing like it to compare with the flavour... I missed them this year as we couldn't go in April/May as we usually do..... Shame......!
Just trying to think if there will be anything else to pick in October, but I think not really...Pineapples & water coconuts perhaps.. As long as there are no major storms this summer the small mango fruits are forming on the trees now for next year there... :gnthb:
