Sorry for interupting but can you put manure on the soil> I thought it was too strong and it went in the compost bin. Would it be good for a clay badly drained soil or would it make it worse. I have used sand and mushroom compost already on one part of arden and someone has offered me as much manure as I want.

Hi there CM.You can put the manure on the soil if it is well rotted down,so you need to stack and turn it for at least 3-6 months depending on the weather. If you put it on fresh,I heard that as it rots down it robs the soil of Nitrogen, but I am not sure whether that is an old wives tale or not.Get as much as you can because you can always put it compost bins or in a heap, then use it when you want to.You will see it shrink down quite a bit as it rots down. That is why you needs loads of the stuff.Good Luck
