I am actually knitting these bands to go to Canada to be sold with our knitted masks. We found that the short ear savers that are advertised work their way down to the neck and pull the mask off centre. They have buttons at the back.. Just posted 60 of them..

NB ear savers; if you have to wear a mask for long periods eg health workers etc, your ears at the back get sore, hence " ear savers" so they do not have to be touching the skin there.

      Hello @shiney

      I hope you are well.

Where does this leave people like myself who are not able to wear any kind of Face Covering because of Health Issues?

I am panicking at the moment as I am basically going to end up house bound.

      Thanks

      Kevin

Should mention, I'm being sarcastic.
And yet, despite being a joke, its a good point. If - and its still a big if in my opinion - they go ahead and enforce "by the end of the week" it does make you wonder why not earlier etc? Is the enforcement going to be a law, or a recommendation? If the former I would imagine they would need to pass an Act of Parliament, which can take a few days, though in the circumstances it would be reassuring to think the process would be sped up. The whole issue of masks and face coverings has been full of ambiguity, mixed messages, and indecision.

if you're not able to wear them for health reasons you will no doubt be exempt from doing so, and just need to do what people in that position have been doing on public transport - contact your GP or health professional and get a letter you can show to that effect.

[Good to know it's quite safe in shops for the next week and a half, after that it becomes more dangerous and we will require masks.

Just seen an answer to this from George Eustace, out of interest. He points out that the extra few days will give those who do not have masks time to prepare, which is quite sensible when you think about it: I ordered mine from Amazon and they took 3 or 4 days to arrive.

              Hello @SimonZ

              Thanks for the reply.

I already have a short note written on the back of an Autism Alert Card signed by a GP stating that due to my Autism there is no possibility of me being able to wear any kind of Face Covering.

I got this when the Face Coverings were required on Public Transport, hopefully it will suffice in Shops too.

              Thanks

              Kevin

Yes, don't quote me on this but I'm fairly sure it will -I'm working on a covid helpline and we're getting calls regarding the exemptions this morning, and its just been suggested that an exemption card can be downloaded from the Metro website.

Why the 24 july, if it's as bad as they say masks should have been made law when cv came into the uk in any public place, not 3-4 months down the line shuting the stable door after the horse as bolted

You'll need a Risk Assessment done, pete, before you do that.:dunno::heehee:

@Kevin Cowans No need to panic as you would come under the allowed exemptions. I think the idea is for exemption for under 11's and those with medical conditions. If things get really strict it would be better for you just to carry a note from your doctor. Doctor's headed paper makes things so much easier.

I've just read Simon's post and agree.

                    Keep well

                      Hello @shiney

                      Thanks for the reply.

I have just got off the phone with the Autistic Society and they have confirmed the Exemptions and also provided me with some documentation I can Print off to show.

I am also in the process of applying for an updated Autism Alert Card with South Yorkshire Police, I have the original one but it does not provide as much information as the updated ones.

Thanks for the well wishes, you too :)

When I reply, I don't copy & paste etc, I just pres "Reply," then delete the bits of text I'm not specifically replying to, mainly to trim the whole thing down as it seems pointless having the rest of the persons post there. I didn't realize it caused any probs. What's the best way to do it?
If you use Reply and get the whole post to edit, doing so viewing in the wysiwyg rich text editor mode can cause errors because coding tags (quote, indent, attach, etc.) can be inadvertantly deleted, and this is what appears to be happening. The forum software will attempt to replace missing closing tags (with the /), but most of the time gets them in the wrong place, messing things up even further.

But if you click on the spanner on the far right top corner of the editting screen all the coding tags will be displayed so accidental deletion can be avoided. Return to wysiwyg by clicking on the blue 'rich text editor' on bottom left hand corner.

A test! Try Using reply with this post, and see what appears beneath this paragraph - it's an example of what partial deletion of coding tags, with the forum software automatically adding a closing tag in the wronglace can do .....

The above is a bit too complicated for me, I'm afraid. I think I'll leave it for now anyway. This thread has proved an interesting means of assessing a few of the current attitudes regarding masks, but following the news that they are to be made mandatory, its academic now so no real point in continuing the debate from my perspective.
