Most of the current recommendations are for people to wash them after every use. Since the start I have been isolating mine for three days after use, then washing them and then isolating them again. i don't know whether it helps but I feel better for doing so.

The type I use are the green ones you typically see with the folds in them (not sure what the folds are for ) and the flexible metal strip that goes across the bridge of the nose. That strip certainly helps stop my glasses fogging up as it seals the mask firmly to the skin below the glasses.

The WHO now say they think the Covid particles may remain in the air longer than previously thought. Another possible reason for wearing a mask in crowded public places. Fortunately I don't go to crowded public places.

I am a bit upset that I didn't buy shares in a mask manufacturing business.

Not sure what to advise on. Throwing almost anything into the sea is totally irresponsible. :dunno:

I often hear that regular waste and rubbish thrown in bins "ends up in the sea," which was what I thought was suggested by this article. If the problem is restricted to those throwing them into the sea then as you say its self-explanatory. It does cast a new light on the idea that mask-wearers are responsible though.

I've no doubt it does. I'm wondering about disposal of masks in common use.

Sorry but this subject is going around in circles. Just buy a washable one, this is what I've done.

Washable one. I only use disposable "anything" when there is no alternative.

Could you please quote the source of the regular garbage going into the ocean and where it is happening. I cannot see this happening much in developed nations. Now it's our turn to ask you some questions :)

Are you residing in one of the third world countries that routinely dump in the ocean @SimonZ and that is why you're concerned with this issue? Is this knowledge you are using as your criteria for judging masks a part of what was provided to you to perform your job? Exactly what areas of health care are you responsible for in dispensing "help". What are your employers instructions?

We had some people come round for plants and honey and they were wearing masks. :blue thumb: It wasn't really necessary as we observe distancing but it was good to see. :)

Yes, they're becoming much more common wherever I go too, especially the shops - even staff. I'm torn because I really long for the end of restrictions and obviously don't like seeing people, and being, behind masks, but on the other hand it does give you a sense that people give a damn about your right to safety and are doing something, however marginally effective, to at least cut down the chances of making an existing problem worse. I think its great when this happens via genuine good will rather than coercion/mandatory law.

                        I consider Simon's comments valid.

YES sad to say, this thread has developed into a merry-go-round.

                        Some of my own observations.

This pandemic has bought about so many questions for which perhaps at present, no satisfactory answer is available. So face masks. Advisable or not. In simple terms. 'IF'? wearing one might afford some protection, then surely it's wise to give it a go. Even the worlds greates scientic brains are still as it were, wandering, searching like the proverbial three blind mice. We are all in this together. It is expected that we all. Well those who have the power of reasonableness to pull together and try and listen to some kind of reasoning. So, so sadly so many innocent people have died. Please friends.. Stay Safe and lets hope we will will all be here next year, with soil under our finger nails etc.
