I use ZoneAlarm , Firewall - Antivirus - Identity Protection , this is also free . Used it for about 8 years. The reviews on Zone Alarm at the time rated it as one of the best free antivirus progs.
My new Lenovo PC had Mcafee preloaded , but thankfully I did not activate it when I was setting the PC up.

I thought zone alarm was redundant since windows firewall was introduced as a standard feature from either vista or 7.

Worth a snottogram to the retailer for peddling this shite to a vulnerable customer.

I use avg and no issues yet... I like Clue's point on having different user log in for day to day use - I might even do it one day!

I looked at the link that @blacktulip posted and liked some of the discussion on there (didn't understand most of it ) but when someone commented that "Mac's do not require any antivirus" the reply was "Sir, I hope you never have children" :loll:

Just read the report linked by @blacktulip , this aligns with @clueless1 previous post.
My new puter is running Windows 10 Pro , this has the MS firewall and antivirus programme Windows Defender . Now like others on GC I have installed one of these "Super" free AV programs. In my case Zone Alarm (AV + Firewall) , others have AVG , Avast etc etc . Or paid for AV like Macafee.
So the bottom line is we should disable the free AV , and turn on Windows Defender ? And allow MS to look after our fate.

What is Defender anyway? Have to confess I've never given it a second thought

It's the Microsoft firewall/AV that ships with Windows 10.

It's definitely pre 10. I use 7 at work and it's on there. I can't remember what version I used in my previous employ buy it was there too.

My Windows Defender is off as well - due to having another Anti virus / Firewall running.
                  To access your windows setting...
Settings(the little cog shaped icon when you press the Window button )-----Updates and security---- ---- On the RH menu select windows defender.
It now shows Real Time AV protection is OFF , due to another AV prog.
I think today I will switch off Zone Alarm and turn on Windows D . Surely Microsoft must be better or at least as good as other software now ?

I only use Defender and have no issues with it. Being as it's part of Microsoft's Windows 10 set up surely it's going to function well.

I also only use Edge and Bing now and it's made a big difference to the way my computer functions. If it's in-built surely the compatibility has got to cut down or out any niggles?
