I took these pictures this morning before the wind and rain arrived as I'm sure everything will look battered and bedraggled by tomorrow!

Beautiful roses, especially your Desdemona, more blooms than mine has at the moment.

I picked a big bunch of my roses at lunchtime before it rained hard. In no particular order I'm afraid there are:-
Gertrude Jekyll, Isaphan, Queen Elizabeth, Claire Austin, Ghislaine de Felingord, Natalie Nypels, unnamed Apricot and ditto deep Pink and the deep red one is Royal William, much the biggest bloom by far. 20240613_182452.jpg 20240613_184456.jpg 20240613_182519.jpg 20240613_182528.jpg

          ..superb array of vases @lizzie
..and lovely to see large, well grown roses in a garden setting..

.. this is 'Katherine'.. sweetly scented on warm days, shapely vigorous bush with so far healthy foliage.. new this year for me..

@Mrs Hillard, thank you, I do have a job to persuade myself to occasionally cut some roses for inside but I am following your's and Nollie's advice on Feed it Friday's which has borne great results so I have enough blooms to spare this year!

Regarding my newish Ghislaine de Felingord - it's now reached about 6 ft. Would you say it is amenable to being trained in a particular direction? Or should I just leave it well alone to do its own thing? Any advice most welcome.

Re your 'Ghislaine de Feligonde'.. well it depends on what your plans are for this rose. If you have support in place then yes you can consider training it as a rambler if you have the room, or you could grow it as a large free standing shrub. I always preferred to let it do its own thing, within reason, but I found it difficult to keep it anything less than around 6' tall by 10' across.

Thanks for that @Mrs Hillard , I'll take a pic of the area in question tomorrow (weather permitting) so you can see what I mean. I had thought it might get higher than that, so 6ft ish is good news!

@lizzie27 I have Ghislaine de Feligonde in Norfolk, against a 6 foot fence. I have attached wires to the fence. I don't prune her as a rambler in summer as she repeat flowers. I tidy her up in winter and tie her in to the fence. She's quite bushy but I do train her a bit against the fence, I don't want her taking over the front of the border. I think she's 4 yrs old now and she's a bit taller than the fence and probably a bit wider than tall.

I haven't seen her since mid May as we've been in France but I will see her next week.

I found a photo of my Ghislaine still in her pot after a trip to Peter Beales in June 2019.

Here she is in June last year, 2023. She was bigger than that when we left in May this year.

When we went to the big French garden for the Garden Club picnic I saw that the enthusiastic lovely owner had used bits of broken terracotta roof tiles to label his roses. He wrote the names with black marker pen. It wasn't an eyesore like plant labels can be. I've now done that as I have a pile of old roof tiles from the old barn. I was putting the labelled bits of tile by the roses when the rain tipped down and I got wet.

That's a nice idea @Busy-Lizzie - wonder if I could do the same with sherds of terracotta pots....

@Busy-Lizzie , Thanks for pics of your GdF, very helpful.
Here is mine, planted on the North side of a trellis in a corner and I'm hoping that it will grow over the top of the trellis towards the south, along the rope and up into the old cherry trees. It's got plenty of room I think. Time will tell!!
