I hate to say this, but they may well be 5,000 members, but you could also say there are NOT 50,000 members. and "celebrate" that

My point being that of the the 5,000 members, have a look how many have actually have a post count of 1 or more.

Or put it another way, of the 5,000 members how many have:

    Actually made any posts

    Still make posts.

I am willing to be the answer is not that many

Look at the member list Page 1 has 11 members who have made zero posts. its similar for all the pages.

    Sorry, but its true.

:thumb: Well Hellooooo Forget-me -knot.. Hope you are enjoying the site..!!:D

:) Water-garden, it isn't so much about how many join and still post & how many posts they make, it is the actual board membership number..! ;) You know how the supermarkets are better off if they keep opening new stores.? Well GC is better off in the Internet stakes with it's membership always rising..!!;):D There is always a hardcore of people posting on any site, never the full membership..!:)

Would it help if we said we'd had 5,000 REGISTRATIONS then!

You always get a disparity between registrations and active members. The active membership varies from day to day, week, to week and month to month. That's why it's an ACTIVE membership list!
No matter whether the member's stay with us or go away, it still remains there are 5,000+ names on the membership list.

On the old format, our registration numbers used to be displayed. Can't recall what mine was exactly but it was something like 249. I think jjordie's was around 242. Some of us have been with this forum since there were about 10 'rooms' and maybe 20-30 posts a day! We thought that was busy! But we've watched it grow and develop and the same friendly atmosphere that existed then exists now.

So why don't you just join in with our joy? It's not doing anyone any harm and heaven knows, we've had precious little in our lives to rejoice about these past few days.

Statistics as we know can be interpreted in various ways. I think the 'read' this post numbers also reflect the number of visitors who just come here for information.

An interesting comparison is.....if you look at the Wakey Wakey thread. The number of views of that thread are virtually the same as the number of posts, whereas, The POP INN (advert) has had over a 1000 post, but over 6000 views...so some people find it entertaining.

You could do stats on a site on all sorts of things...but in my mind what really matters is the advice and friendliness of a site and this one has it in spades (sorry for the pun):thumb:

    Long Live GC.

Tweaky you will find on the Wakey Wakey thread most of the posts are done just in the morning whereas yours goes on 24/7 which is good for those of you who have trouble sleeping:D

I think your thread would be good as another Second Life, virtually speaking:rolleyes::D

By the way,you are all missing the point. If it wasn't for the members posting continually on this site it would have bitten the dust years ago,so I think the fireworks and Celebrations should go to the members who sit at their computers continually posting instead of getting on with the job in hand and that is GARDENING:thumb::):p;)

Not quite sure I understand you Kandy? First and foremost, it isn't my thread...it belongs to everyone that posts on it. The point I was making in my post, was that lots of people benefit from the free advice given by others...although not necessarily posting themselves.

Congratulations to those who sit at their computers instead of getting on with the job in hand??? The job as you put it is .....living your life.

People post on here in their free time...between Gardening, shopping, hospital visits etc....and lots of us give valuable advice to new folks who are just into first time gardening etc. So if there is any point to be missed I feel you are incorrect. A lot of members post in a morning, afternoon, evening depending upon their circumstances. After all, what is best..sat in front of a TV at night, or getting on the forum and sharing experiences and giving advice?

I am a relatively new member, but most of my posts have been in the 'assistance category' as well as having a bit of fun.

Job in hand??? that's what we are all doing. Asking advice, giving advice and having a laugh as well. Can't see much wrong with that, can you?:thumb:
