Sorry, mine is probably a bit boring, not least because I don't have photos and was only about 5 year old at the time, but for some reason it popped into my head today.

Its the time my arm got run over by a bus, and I didn't tell my mam in case I got done.

I was walking along with my mam, and I think I'd been naughty as I was lagging behind a bit sulking. I suddenly spotted something over the road and shouted to my mam and stuck my arm out to point. There was a hell of a wallop and I literally spun right round. I considered crying, and I considered telling my mam, but she hadn't seen it, the bus didn't stop, so I just carried on, now with an extra thing to sulk about. To this day, my mam doesn't know that my arm got hit by a bus when I was little.

Thanks Shiney, amazing pictures! :dbgrtmb: Things were built to last back then and the fact that the underground is still running today proves that. :) It makes you wonder how these men achieved anything on the sites, health and safety would have a field day now!

A few years ago I did a genealogy search and found my ancestors came from the UK to America almost two hundred years ago. Also, I found a very distant cousin in the UK and we have become very close and correspond frequently. We have traded old family photos and the resemblance is remarkable through the generations. This photo was taken in County Durham and the person is a distant cousin who, along with is brother, lost his life in World War I.

I bet you've found out some interesting facts along the way Hydrogardener. A search is something I've thought about over the years but not got round to. Many years ago my father's brother created a family tree which was reasonably easy as we have an unusual family surname and he traced and recorded our family to the fifteenth century. Sadly I never saw what he produced before he died and I don't know whether his records are still in existence.

                        Well Sheal,
I have indeed, my distant cousin in the UK is an expert on genealogy. There is a VERY good chance that our ancestors lived in this castle. And, I suspect one of my male ancestors was executed for witchcraft during the Burning Times in Newcastle.

I read a lot of medieval history and I've always found castles part of the fascination. Which one is this please? It's unusual to have a male executed for witchcraft.

The castle is Sheriff Hutton castle and I was also surprised about a male witch.

Mrs W's father and grandparents circa 1914/15. Grandfather had been conscripted into the Czar's army during the revolution. Photo was taken in Tiblisi Georgia and shortly later the family escaped back to Poland. The train journey was extremely harrowing as the train was hit by shells from the revolutionary army and there was no food. Mrs W's dad recounted about lying under the train during shelling and drinking olive oil that was dripping from the carriage above.
