My father when he was stationed in Nairobi

That brown stain on the upper right hand corner? All my fault ... I had taken this photo to school for showing. That same day, in Home Economics, we made a chocolate blancmange. Our class was the final class of the school day, so, it never set and spilt in my school bag with the photos  Seemed such a disaster at the time - didn't dare tell my mother I'd ruined the photo ... but then, if it hadn't been for that blancmange ... I wouldn't have still had the photo  ;)

What a wonderful thread! I like peeking through old pictures and even more so if they are of familiar people. (maybe I will find some old pics myself - who knows, one day... tidying up...)

Do you know, the more I look at this, the more I think ...

... pop a long wig on and you would be the spitting image of your Dad!

I was on the first Aldermarston March run by CND in 1959 and had my photo, amongst others, on the front page of the papers :blue thumb:

But I cheated  I only did the last few miles and offered to help carry the banner as the people were tired. :heehee:

This photo is of my cousin Al on his last leave from service. Al was in the U.S Army Air Force, 457 Bombardment Group stationed in the UK at an airfield called Glatton at the time. It was near Peterborough and one of Al's friends told me that they had great times in Peterborough. Sadly, Al's plane was shot down on a mission to bomb an ordinance plant at Oranienburg, Germany on April 10, 1945 shortly before the end of the war, Al did not survive. I am the little guy wearing the big hat.

I know I've posted this somewhere on GC but it's not on this thread.

When I was young I wasn't too happy that all the news was about Sir Walter Raleigh bowling and not about me!

Our daughter trained at Great Ormond Street Childrens Hospital. On completion of her training she became a specialised menigitis SCABU nurse and was responsible for the dedicated ward at another hospital.
She eventually gave up work when her first child was born, she has four children, the youngest she had at the age of 42.
This photo is just over thirty years old. She's front row, second from the left. She's still friends with the boy in the back row on the right.

Weren't they well turned out in those days? They were provided with a freshly laundered overall, or set of scrubs for every shift.
And none of that "I've got a degree, I'm not going to clean up sick," nonsense, our son's partner who is a senior nurse in a Manchester hospital, gets from the new intake.

Me, bottom left of picture, with Richard (Lord) Attenborough (famous actor, film star, director and producer - and for football fans, life president of Chelsea) and his wife Sheila Sim (actress and film star). I think it was not long after they got married.

He was awarded two Academy Awards, four BAFTA Awards and four Golden Globes.

The older ones on here will remember him from some of the 68 films he acted in. Including being the officer in charge of the escape committee in 'The Great Escape', played John Christie in '10 Rillington Place'. The younger ones might remember him from playing John Hammond in the 'Jurassic Park' series.

And, talking of Ena Sharples I saw her in Coronation Street's first episode on my parents' Vidor TV. Had a pair of specs made about then, but didn't like them. Still have these and hubby says he'll scan a photo to here... when he finds the time. ;)
