Messy mixed hedgerow

    Please do not cut back any more until the autumn./winter
    There are bound to be bird nests in that hedge.

    No nests at the moment....I am certain.

    I only intend to cut a wayward branch here or there. The vast amout of cutback was done last autumn/winter.

    It's looking good. I would leave the elder though; it is a very good wildlife hedging plant.

    We have lots of elder elsewhere, so that is good. I think the issue with it here is that it out competes those plants around it and is a bit of a moisture hog. It can end up sticking out like a sore thumb and hold back the other stuff.
