Thanks everyone. The map was a little misleading for me as I seem to be on the border of H6/H7. Our second winter here 2017/18 reached -15C overnight so on the whole I will probably get away with H7. We'll see what this coming winter brings.

Verdun my soil is sandy loam but my soil isn't the killer here it's the cold winds and frosts. My aspect is open and rural and I'm living just above the snow line. Well....if I'm going to live in the Highlands I might as well do it properly! :heehee:

      Brrrrr!
      I prefer the warmth but I'm a southern softy:yes:
I love these, recently bought seeds and also golden rod, both good for bees and butterflies.

Hi Sheal, the nearest to you I've been is Huntly in 1968, my mates three maiden aunts lived on the banks of the Strath Bogie so fishing every day for breakfast, no gas, electric or running water, a well, candles and it poured constantly. Whisky was good though.

There's not many living like that now Rob. :)

I had to check Huntly on a map, it's about halfway between Elgin and Aberdeen.

I think from google maps it's still there, imagine the shock driving from London, 1960 Ford Anglia,
to be confronted with a candle for lights and a wash in the sink with water heated on the range. It was fun until I had a call from work to say an emergency and get the train back as it was quicker.
Michaelmas daisies are on Dorset Perennials to so will order along with the Monardas.
