Hi Mum . Midges this this year are Rife. This is due to the Damp/wet weather we have had.
This year we have had three generations of the dreaded midge,
    (Normally Two Generations).
Personally, This year I have Been Bitten CRAZY.:yikes:.
I was at my wits end with bites on my legs/Ankles /Arms/Face.
In pure desperation I was willing to try virtually anything.
I Tried a Product called CYCLAX.
It's a three in one Aftersun Lotion. It contains Insect Repellent/Anti-Oxidant,
Cucumber/Aloe Vera/Intensive Moisturiser . I have found since I started to use this Product I have been Virtually( Bite Free ):blue thumb:.
This Product Comes in a 250Ml Tube and costs around £4.:blue thumb:.
When Bitten with midge's I used Simple Household Vinegar.:blue thumb:

On the Towans behind me gorse is everywhere..it has a vanilla/coconut smell in early spring ESP but can occur any time as it flowers most of the year. It is an elusive smell being in the air rather than close up on the plant. When the weather is warm and quiet the fragrance is overwhelming.

I have a tube of Dr Johnsons mosquito and insect repellent gel, think I got it from Superdrug, mind you its probably something they only sell in summer, always rub it on exposed skin when I'm in the garden and it works, it has the citronella in it as mentioned and yes smells quite nice :), looking at the ingredients it also has lavender, eucalyptus and lemon grass in it !!!!!

My wife suffers from midge bites , luckily I don't . In Turkey they use a lemon eau de cologne spray which smells lovely and is also effective against bites . Its very cheap in Turkey , no idea on the cost here though .

My greenhouse is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.. but its ok.. in fact I'm trying to keep it that way. The mosquitoes are the native Culex pipiens.. these mosquitoes do not bite.
