I walks into B&Q and and this old bloke comes up to me and says, good morning, do you want decking, luckily I got the first punch in, he wont do that again.

Old joke I know.

 

The area above where the new trellises are has now been tidied too, it was in such a mess, so I repositioned some plants to make it look better, and put some others in the ground, which were in pots waiting.

It needs something along the edge now, instead of those broken bits of slabs, which have also become dirty
And the pots need cleaning up too, it's been so wet they've all gone green.











I hope it will look better in the spring

If you don't like the slabs why not get rid and plant something like Aubretia or Ladys mantle to trail over the edge

 

Thank you ... The slabs are just bits I found here and there, and they cap the concrete bricks which keep the soil in place, because the path slopes down.
I had creepers growing over them in places but I've cut them back and now the slabs are more visible. They are just broken bits and I want something nicer-looking. Then the creepers can soften the edges again next year when they grow back.

 

Maybe Largeish pebbles or gravel or Bark along the edge? I hope you don't mind me sticking my twopenneth in but I love these kind of projects

Personally, if it's a used pathway I would advise against pebbles or gravel. I can only speak from my own experience of course but we have a lot of shingled paths and I think over the years they contributed to my joint issues...still do now! Especially now as I've had bones in my feet fused to ease the discomfort, I still have to be very careful on the paths as I easily tumble on them if not paying attention. Just my own thoughts, as I would hate to hear of any accidents that could've be avoided if I had added my penny worth.....So I have!!!

 

Thank you @Upsydaisy. I appreciate your concern. I am also unsteady on my feet and tend to topple over sometimes, especially if I do things too quickly and my knees give way. I don't seem to remember that I'm getting old now

The path itself has slabs and they're staying, but it's the edging of the flower bed I'm wanting to change.
There are concrete bricks acting as a little retaining wall, and I want something to cap them with. At the moment there are broken bits of slabs there. I'll take a picture to illustrate it later on.

Sorry formed the wrong picture of things.So yes maybe gravel/ shingle or bark will be a good solution then.

 

As a quick solution Michael, I think I'd get rid of the concrete blocks and use paving slabs on end half buried in the ground.
You could then plant right up to the edge, almost, if you wanted to.

 

Thanks for everyone's interest in my garden, and all suggestions. I'm afraid it has become rather a mess over the past few years.
Here are some photos to show what I mean by the slabs and concrete bricks bordering the path.

I'll have to get a new one of those things that blast water, the two that are here don't seem to work any more, and the path does need a good cleaning.

 

I didn't realise it was so high at one end, maybe if you relayed the concrete blocks at that end with mortar, and used the slabs up the side of the path/steps.
