Thanks @pete, but I've just had a thought - take the bricks away all together and just have the ground sloping with the path. Is that's a good idea ? The bricks look rather ugly don't they :heehee:

I was thinking along the lines of using what you already have, if you take it all away wont the soil tend to keep washing onto the path and down the slope.

Yes the blocks do look a bit industrial:biggrin:

I suppose it would. I'd forgotten that's why I put the blocks there in the first place

The common thing to use is sleepers now, the proper railway ones are best but the new wood sleepers are far more easy to get hold of .

Yes, I had sleepers in my previous garden because it was very steep and I used them to terrace it. They were the proper old ones and were very heavy but I managed to drag them up the garden myself. 8 of them in fact ! and they looked nice when in place.

However they would be far too big for what I want here, and I would have no way of bringing them in to the garden anyway.
Thanks for the information though :dbgrtmb:

Bottom of the garden is terrible now and getting on my nerves, I need someone to put decking and re-lay the slabs on the path, and a few other things. Garden helping lady can't do all that so I haven't asked her.

I asked a garden designer buisiness based near-by if they could do it, but the chap who visited was a bit of a 'bloke' with a shaved head, and faffed around, continuously pointing out that I had lots of plants ... which I already know !
So I said good bye to him ...

I've sent a message to another place now and hope they will have sensible human beings working there. I'm fed up with 'blokes' and people who keep telling me I've got lots of plants :gaah:
I know I've got lots of plants !

I hope I'll be able to get the work done in the spring.

I sent a request to a garden design company, based locally, to see if they could tidy the bottom of the garden for me (pics of the mess it's in, to follow) and a chap called this morning to see it and give an estimate.

I agreed to his estimate so he's going to put a patio there and put tidy slabs on the garden path.
And the work will start next Tuesday :yikes:
I thought it could be done in the new year but he said if he didn't do it now I'd have to wait until 2026 - they are so booked up.

So that means now that I have to sort all the pots out and put them somewhere out of the way. It's a job that really should have been done earlier but I am so slow these days that I haven't got around to it.

I am pleased really, because I'll be able to enjoy it next spring and summer

                    Better crack on then !!

Sometimes we can benefit from the push to get things done NOW, rather than Whenever. Maybe your garden helping lady could join you for an extra shift, to help to keep you motivated, as much as anything :blue thumb:

I quite agree with that. I have to get things sorted now, whereas I probably wouldn't have bothered, and then would have to rush doing it if it became suddenly frosty and cold.
I've got all the week end, so will take my time over it.

I've cancelled this garden designer. It's too rushed. Thinking of it now, he was very overpowering and rushing me into having something I didn't want. I feel as if he was taking over.

I wanted decking - I've got some left over from when they did the main patio at the back and I don't want to waste it.
But he said I was going to have slabs instead, and he also said he was going to throw away all the slabs now on the path and put new ones ... but there's nothing wrong with the old ones.

And after thinking about it, there were other things I didn't like about him too, but I won't list them :frown:

Also it was going to cost a few thousand pounds, and it would be for something I don't want, so I've cancelled it.
Looking for someone else now :frown: and maybe it will be 3rd time lucky !

A few thousand pounds sounds a lot to me for what he was going to do. It was also a bit of "it's now or never" with him. I am pleased you have cancelled and can reflect on what you want done ... and with what!

Thank you @Victoria, looking back I can see how easilly I got carried away by someone pretending to be ploite and helpful, and telling me I only look 50 when I'm 73 :heehee:
As the day wore on yesterday I had time to take it all in, and then I could see he only wanted to make some quick easy money.
One has to be very careful these days.

They always say if you feel you are being pressured into having something done quickly They are probably best avoided.
