jamie oliver has got a new twist on mince pies and he sprinkles them with cinnamon and icing sugar ..I will give it a whirl tommorow..here is his reipe..

Try mixing a teaspoon of ground cinnamon with a few tablespoons of icing sugar and sift over your mince pies

Sainsbury's easy way, for when you're short on time:
    Cinnamon
    Deep filled mince pies
    Icing sugar

Jamies twist, for 12 mince pies:
1 tsp softened butter for greasing
    Flour for dusting
    375g chilled sweet pastry
1 x 400g jar of good quality mincemeat
    100g walnuts finely chopped
    Zest of 1 orange
    Freshly grated nutmeg
1 egg, beaten with a tbsp of milk
    Icing sugar, cinnamon for dusting
    Optional: a splash of brandy/sherry

My all time favourite mince pie recipe
Roll out the sweet pastry on a lightly floured surface. Carefully cut out 12 circles of the pastry with a cutter or tumbler and lay them in a buttered shallow tart baking tray. Pop the tray in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes. To make the lids take the rest of your pastry and cut 12 smaller circles. Break up the mincemeat in a bowl, add finely chopped walnuts, orange zest, a little freshly grated nutmeg and mix well. Spoon the mincemeat mix into the chilled pastry bases until theyâre just over half full and smooth out to the edges. Brush the top of the pastry with beaten egg mixture and lay the pastry lids over the top crimping the edges so the lids stick to the bases. Then bake in the oven at 180°C/gas mark 4 for 25 minutes or until the pastry is golden. Then just sprinkle with cinnamon and icing sugar.

Nice cake, roders, but we have our Lidl Stollen as we do every year (I don't DO Christmas cakes).

Perhaps next year with the mince pies ... with notice and no fog ???? Enjoy and please enjoy one for me, thank you! [IMG]
