It's called Hop Tu Naa here on the island, but it makes no difference, I don't like it either. I'm here on my own this year, firework night too.

Went there in '84 after Bangkok and Penang, this was the first time I saw Hibiscus Schizopetalus, your first pic and Strongylodon, my GC name. It's probably quite different now.:)

      I don't like it.

The main reason I don't like it may seem trivial. Its because I'm not sure of the current custom, and one version of it goes against all my childhood brainwashing.

When I was a kid, you collected money, because every kids knows "You NEVER accept sweets from strangers". (though strangely the brainwashing never said anything about accepting money from strangers). Yet nowadays, it seems we live in America where instead of taking the time to sing a full poem for your 10p, now they just have to say "trick or treat" and then stick their hands out expectantly. But many of the kids nowadays will have parents of my age, so will they have been taught to expect money, or sweets? If I give them money and they were expecting sweets, will that make me seem weird. If I (a stranger to them) give them sweets, will that make me weird too? I don't know. Best just to hide out the back, or better still, go out.

Incidentally, I have occasionally considered telling the callers that Halloween is actual an early Christian rip off of Samhain, one of two nights in the year when the veil between the two worlds is at its thinnest, and the night when The Morrigen reclaims her reign over the world, and will be out wandering about looking for souls to collect, so they'd best run home screaming, and lock the doors and windows, and stay their until easter when the goddess Oestre returns to earth in the form of a full moon to breath new life into the world. But then I thought, best not.

It's always been sweets when I was trick or treating (only about 10yrs ago:OUCH:) it was actually always a disappointment when we got money as you can buy your own sweets when ever you want my feelings where that it was the variety of sweets which made it interesting =]

Last year we had a collection of stuff consisting of all the flavours/colours from multi-packs that we didn't like, or contained dead animals and waited in vain for somebody to come and take it all off our hands, but nobody called.

I like to get a bag or two of Halloween type sweet to give to the little kiddies who dress up, most come round with there parents, it's the big gang of teenagers who knock LOUD! and haven't even bothered to dress up and maybe only wear a scary mask that i don't like.

Overe here, i get roughly 75-100 kids, and the majority are dressed up....and i figure its easier to give to the ones who arent dressed up, rather then having my house egged or my truck!!

I love decorating for Fall using pumpkins, you pay roughly 5 dollars up to 50.00 per pumpkin.

They look more like marrows than bananas. :)
