    This idea does work however the back sides of those emergency blankets are usually an extremely ugly bright orange colour - at least mine are. These are what I use in the sides of my indoor seedling area in the basement, where no one can see how nasty they look. I would never put anything that unsightly in my yard.

    Sorry to disagree....

      Hi Freddy, good to have you back. :) A silly idea for you to consider.....how about cutting a hole in the hedge immediately behind the greenhouse? It will let the sun through but the eyesore will still be screened by the greenhouse. :biggrin:

        @Freddy
        Aluminium Foil reflects very well the metallised emergency blankets, as used at the end of the London Marathon etc should work as they are tough as well as reflective.

        Hi Freddy, :dbgrtmb:

        How high are the chicken sheds? A couple of feet off the hedge seems to be the easisest way and if this still hides the sheds I would be inclined to do that. :)

        Hiya folks, thanks for the input :blue thumb:

        Cutting the hedge might be a bit drastic, especially if it doesn't have the desired effect. I'm going to try a mirror. My son has a light meter, so I'll be able tell clearly if there's a significant difference.

          Hi Freddy,

          I'm gonna go out on a bit of a limb here.

          You know the gable end that is up against the hedge ? Could you not paint that a bright white to reflect the light back in ?

            Hiya Anthony.

            Not sure what that would achieve? The sun goes over the back, behind the hedge.

            Yeah, but wouldn't it just make a dark corner brighter anyways?

            Hi Freddy
            A mirror to reflect the light back in does work I used one at my old house where the garage cut the light on a morning until afternoon, used a large mirror 5ft x 2.5 ft about 6 ft away from the greenhouse which turned leggy plants into good plants, gave about an extra 3 hours of sun. I also used aluminium foil under the plants
