Mixing sharp sand into compost?

    Not sure about additives Harry, but I would be inclined to give Sainsbury's Basics washing up liquid - the vast majority of their Basics stuff is actually pretty decent, and in most cases it is simply because they have stuck to a simple recipe or formulation.

    At one time I'm sure you could actually by wetting agents.
    Not sure exactly what they were, but I've never found a small drop of washing up detergent to cause any bad effects.

    "without any additives" I suggestion using "Horticultural soap" which is more suitable for use on plants. However ... it ain't "cheap" :(
