If you were your mother you wouldn't switch it on. We got one for my mother in law, she is 82, so we could keep in touch and make sure she is OK. But she always switches the damn thing off.
I HAD to buy one a few years ago, because as part of the campaign of harassment in my old accommodation my landlady had the landline taken out..... Now that I've moved my partner has suggested that I have a landline installed, but I'd rather get a harpsichord....
