Sorry Steve, I'm backing the staff on this one. Is it really necessary to have a newsletter.........the Gardeners Corner site is a full, informative and well balanced site as it stands. I honestly don't think we would gain anything from a newsletter that cant be or isn't already in GC.

Plus as they have said, it wouldn't be easy to set up.

I get a monthly news letter from another gardening site and to be quite honest, I delete it without looking at it, I only went there for espionage purposes.

There is a lot of quality stuff on Gardeners Corner, but not enough of the right stuff to crib for a magazine/newsletter on a monthly basis.

Like has been said, the monthly "To Do" bit failed already.

A six monthly or annual e mail might be a possibility but please don't get in a state just because a new idea has not been immediately implemented. We don't work like that.

And just to prove that the idea is not already in progress here is the prototype

Gardeners Corner Magazine: The Importance of Holding Beds

Brought together by some wonderfull GC contributers, but there is just not enough stuff to get a full time mag together.

Ziggy is getting cross, tired and emotional about this subject now and will say no more until tomorow.

Here's a slightly left field view of the debate.

I have been a Director of a Sporting Club for 25 + years (12 as Co. Secretary). This year - for the 25th year running we are asking for new blood to become members of the Board.
After 25 years, of the 10 Board members, 8 are over 60 - of which 6 are original Board members.
In the last 10years we have had 3 new members - 2 leaving after 1 year.
The Club has more than 3000 members and NONE have offered to stand for selection for next years Board - again.

This demonstrates the apathy of members of a Club, with the expectation that the current Board will run the Club and employ staff form the future.

There are many suggestions of the differing directions, reduction of fees, improved facilities, enhanced benefits for members etc. but NO ONE is prepared to become involved and actually facilitate these requested improvements.

I have great respect for those people who control this Forum, which enables like-minded (and cantankarous - like me) people to express opinion, offer suggestion or just argue on any one of a limitless range of topics.

        I. for one, couldn't give a monkeys for a banal newsletter. I'd just like the opportunity to argue with the likes of Armandii and Louise and agree with people like Jack - cos he's Scots Mackem (and they frighten me).

Keep up the good work Marley & Co. - just watch out for Ziggy. There's strange things going on in Somerset/Dorset - late night fishing, drinking, UFO watching:what: etc.

Well, Steve, since. my friend, you say you can produce a monthly, informative news letter which would obviously cover all points in order to please all members of Gardeners Corner to all members, every month, on time, every time, IN HALF AN HOUR then I have to bow to your superior experience, know how, and skills which. to me. are much needed to teach our National Journals where they have gone wrong. I will refrain from asking the obvious question!!:D

I am at the moment working for and reporting to certain High Crown Judiciary and I am sorely lacking your skills and capabilities, that doesn't sound too negative, negative, negative, does it?, I mean what would my employers think?:D

You make it sound like we have nothing better to do Armandii?

            ARMANDII please stop!!

You dont even have the fainest idea what my idea was apart from "Newsletter"...no one has stopped to ask or thought to ask.."How?"

I posted with a good idea..it was knocked immediately as cant do wont do, no one asked "How?"

I dont doubt you have high jounalistic skills, do you know if that was required for my idea..of course you dont..because you never actually thought to ask, so again I'll say..just drop my idea..forget I even mentioned it.

I appear to have upset so maany people here, for that I apologise endlessly, but I do think that at some point someone should have asked me "How?" Rather than just "assuming"

It's upsetting people, so just forget the idea and move on.

            Steve

It was a good idea and I did understand it, Steve, and if you read my posts they were not pooh poohing the idea, I was merely pointing out that your reaction to Marley's and Aesculus's points of view was negative and unkind.

              Consider me stopped.:D

No, it was not negative and unkind, rather their views to my idea was negative, as was/is most of the rest of this topic towards myself and the idea. Nobody asked "How?" Just "we cant" (Aesculus - but to do that we would have to use a 3rd party website and a good reputable organisation for bulk email sending is not cheap...) "we dont" (Marley - would certainly not have that time every month) <-- They are negaitve!

Maybe a "How do you see that working Steve?" would have gleaned more info.

              Steve
