Pete, I hope you don't mind me asking, but very roughly where do you live? S.E., S.W. S., Mids etc? We seem to be into and growing similar types of plants and it's always useful to compare experiences. I've been pfaffing around with exotics for 20-odd years just up from the beach on the outskirts of Torquay and earlier in far less equable places. Sometimes the local climate lulls me into being distant from the real world.

That is until we get a long winter like the last that really hit everything for six - not early on, but at the time when everything was about to resume growth. It all looked fine here until late February. Afterwards? :( :( :( Still the 'nana' clumps are now seriously on the move and I've not lost any palms.

Dave at the bottom of everones posts is where they live, I see yours says South Devon, Basil Fawlty country I believe.
I'm in mid Kent, we catch the east winds in winter and early spring, but we do tend to get pretty hot at times in the summer if there's any heat about that is and it can get dry.
