Lol ...I`ve done almost the same.
the moss should appear after 6 weeks , if the weather will be moist .
Today I went to the garden center and both some white moss ...back home and my girlfriend could not belive that I spent money to buy some moss....She is from Latvia and over there white moss grow everywhere.
went there 3 years ago and I was stunned by the nature over there....moss , pine and fern but most shocking the wild orchids .
She actually get me few picture out.

Hi all , has now 2 months have gone since we start the moss project , I really doubt that anyone got any moss out , as I recently was reading how to germinate Irish moss , we missed all out , as actually moss in January and February dasn`t grow but die down ....that means that if it will grow again it will uppen in spring and the best time to seeds is spring , ready for the autumn rain the grown .
perhaps my experiment didn`t completely failed , I`ve put few drop of milk and moss in few plants pot inside the green house and the humidity and frost free ...my moss grow up.
            will post few picture asap.

Hi all, my attempt at growing moss failed. I tried it on a Japanese lantern and it just turned black ? Is their a consensus on the best time of year to try it here in the UK ?

Gazania , I will try again in July as apparently it need 6 weeks of germination , that will take straigh in Autumn ....as much as I think we had a really dry winter , as moss will require wet and shade ....do not give up , persistance is the key.
I was reading about how to grow around bonsai (as you can buy moss spore on internet ) and they where suggesting that if it`s a small object can be wrapt in a plastic bag so that will keep the moist and stored in a shady mosty place of the garden........it would worth try .

Hi Sal, I have small patches of moss planted around some potted plants. Mainly acers and japanese stlye plants. Moss really does set off these plants nicely. I'm gonna try again for sure. Some moss on rocks in my Japanese garden will look nice.
