I just used my normal outside socket to charge my EV. I plugged in when I got home and it usually recharged by midnight, although I just left it plugged in for the next day. So you don't need an expensive charging station affair, a normal socket is obviously much slower but perfectly adequate for my needs.
@Logan and @Upsydaisy yes, adding an EV charging outlet to your home does cost big bucks over here too but most owners opt for it. Can you imagine sitting at a charging station in -20 temperatures waiting for your turn. No likely for anyone I know. That said, EV's are wickedly expensive even before setting up your personal charging outlet. There's going to be a new "super cable" that will charge and EV in as long as it would take to fuel your tank with petrol. Sounds good. If only electricity was not expensive that is.
We just got info that our charging station ("wallbox") will be installed on February 22nd. We don't even own an electric car (yet), but since there was a bonus program in Germany which will get you 900€ (760£), we couldn't pass the chance. And you never know when you might get a guest with an EV. Guess in a few years we will need a new car anyway if my wife keeps to her plans of having at least 3 children
