Not much doing today. Work and weather has interfered. Went to look at some some large square teracotta pots today. The plan is to make them a feature with round Buxus balls in them. There i go again, always thinking ahead when i havnt finished what im doing.

My new tree stored at the back of the garden blew over last night. By Buxus cuttings are also not looking that great. Still, its all trowel and error.
The weathers looking good for tomorrow, so will try and get the type 1 in.

Had a very busy but constructive day today. I got in all the Type 1, and whacked it down. At one point i thought i was going to have loads left over but my calculations were correct and i used it all up. I then lined the soakaway across the lawn with membrane and filled it with pea shingle before wrapping it with the membrane, adding top soil and re-laying the turf. I think i may have to do another one of these in middle of the lawn. Not sure yet but will see how it goes. I added shingle to the soakaways before covering and wrapping it with shingle. I then added some soil to cover. I then started to get rid of the turf from the top left. Filled all my bags and dumped them around the side. Will probably take these down the dump on Tuesday. All in all, a good day. And the perfume again was amazing today. Those roses half pack a punch.

Heavy overnight rain. Woke me up. Sunshine and the odd shower today.

After saying i wasnt going to dig another trench, ive dug another one. The last i promise. Spent an hour today digging the last drainage trench across the lawn. This one in the middle. With the overnight rain, the path footings held up rather well but does still seem to be a bit wet in that middle section, so the last ditch was a must. I will fill and complete on Tuesday as the weather is set fair. Also done some dead heading and weeding.
More importantly though, four weeks without Monty and GW....................JOKE !!

I had planned to get a few hefty jobs done tomorrow but luckily i got home in good time, so i could do some today. Took the bagged up old turf down the dump. 21 bags in all. Two journey's so not too bad. I took a bit more earth out of my last trench to make a bigger slope from right to left. I also bought one bag of sub base to finish some last spots that are lacking a bit.
Garden wise, i picked another lot of strawberry's. I'll treat the last bits of bind weed with weed killer. Doing it this way has got rid of it. Ive tried digging it out but im also back to square one after 2 years. This way, i get a little glass, spray some week killer in it, get a cotton bud and treat the individual leaves. Time consuming but its working.

Mr. Grinch, would it not be quicker to use an old paint brush instead of a cotton bud?

 

Not really. The leaves are not that big sheal. I dont want to splash my plants with this stuff so i find a cotton bud does the trick. Just must remember not to clear my ears out afterwards

Could you not cut the bottom out of a pop bottle and then spray through the open top when it is put over the leaf?

I could do Rusty, but to be honest, i canna be bothered
Dipping me bud works well, if not a little time consuming. Still, i seem to have got rid of it in one half of the border and im on its trail in the other. I dont use weed killer for any other weed as i find bind weed the worst of all and a pig to get rid of by manual methods.

Glorious day. Sunny and hot. Starting to cloud over now though with a spot of rain. Very muggy.

A very busy but worthwhile day today. I finished the last drainage trench, lining it with membrane, shingle then back fillng and re-turfing. Softened the cut edges to that trench with a bit of new top soil and rubbed in some grass seed. Ive dug and bagged up most of the ramaining turf in the new top left border. Ive got 30 bags which i hope to take to the dump tomorrow. All i need to do now is get the path in, level the soil to the path and add loads of organic matter to bulk up and boost the soil. I then shovelled all the spoil left, top right onto the new border.
When i moved the Acer in the pot, it exposed an old bird bath that i had forgot about. Its very old and doesnt hold water anymore though but im thinking of getting it re-sealed. It was my grandparents and i can remember it being the centre piece to their garden. It must be 50 years old. Its nothing special but i like to keep these memories going. I placed it over the soak away as a kinda marker now, looks ok actually. I'll get some plants to grown up around it, probably next year though now.
