Yes Sheal. I've seen the pictures on the web of the various areas around here. Have you seen the one of the waterfall that was Southend front. The water was running of the hills into the sea like niagra falls. I was fairly lucky as i live on a slight hill mid way up. The water was running down the road like a river which in a way its good as it took the water away from my house but the two houses opposite got it as their drives slopped towards the house and the water just ran in. The bottom of the hills were also very bad indeed.
On the bright side, the sun is now out here, very muggy, i've cleaned up the garden. Loads of the bark floated away so spent and hour picking it all up and putting it back and the surface water on the area's of my path is draining pretty well. The soil is horrid though.

Hope your family made it through ok.

    G

We had a "Heavy Rain" warning. Hardly the word for it. I've lost faith in weather forecasts. To me, the weather is becoming more local and the variations more intense. I just don't think they ever know.

not exactly helpful, is it? Our warnings used to come from the dam, when they had to open the sluice gates, or just below. Just hearing about heavy rain in Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons had people putting items on tables, and us clearing the lower garden of toys!

Strangely, back home, the river is much less volatile, as a leading supermarket wanted to build on the flood plains just up-river of the town. In order to get planning permission, they had to do "something" to alleviate flooding in the town area. I have no idea what they did, but you see fewer photos of people canoeing around Belmont roundabout these days!

I hope that your neighbours are well-covered with insurance, and I feel for you all. The premiums will go up, following this freak weather.:dunno:

What went wrong? I have had about an 80% strike rate - however, they are slow to then bulk up which might make buying them more appropriate.

You'll be broke now then :(

They all died Kristen. Took about 50 cuttings. All wilted. Maybe i didnt do it right probably so. Plus i couldnt wait 2/3 years before they became good size 7-9 inch plants. Life's too short.

So, i looked around for the cheapest. Finally found on Flea Bay 6-8 inch bushy plants, for £1.35 a plant. Bought 100. I know its money but your not around long in this life.

                Happy thoughts eh :cry3:

Mr. Grinch......I've never seen water like that at Southend sea front in all the years I lived in the area. I remember flooding in Rayleigh back in the late '70's though, the water pressure was lifting all the manhole covers.

My family I fine, thanks for thinking of them. :)

                    :(

Likely to be all of that IME - I dunno how they do them commercially, but I have found them slow to put on growth from cuttings (although when I posted on that before JWK said to just stick them in the ground and they will come on faster Mine are in pots)

Good price, I was figuring you'd pay over £2 a plant.

A local nursery to me were selling the 9 inch plants at 1.75 which i thought was a good price but i saw two sellers on Ebay that were doing the same size plants in a bulk 100 plant buy's and were working out at 1.50 and 1.35 each. The 1.50 price seller was a nursery in NI the other chap wasnt a nursery but was in Derby. I have found that even buying this sized plant, its only now 2 years later that they have bushed up enough to form a very low hedge. I think another 2 to get to the size i want.
