Mr G there's a new treatment on the market 'Fungus fighter plus' said to cure Box blight but it sounds like it's too late now:doh: so sorry to hear it......

You could try the Ilex crenata or Lonicera nitida but I'm finding there's very little difference in the price...:rolleyespink:

I've got some Yew I could try striking some cuttings from if they're any good to you:thumbsup:

No problem. :blue thumb: Just let us know what type and we'll make sure we don't cut those back. You can come and cut what you want if you're coming on Open Day (I would guess that Kristen got most of what he wanted last time :) but I'm sure there would be enough for both of you if needed).

If you can't make Open Day then we can arrange for you to pop over in mid to late spring when the growth is there. We cut the silver back only last week but it should be OK by spring. :)

Will have a look Loli for this new spray. Didn't realise they had been making progress with a fungicide on this. My guess this will be a preventive rather than cure like all the other sprays but i may use it to target an area of box that is older and worth keeping. There are too many others to keep spraying and once this Blight is in the soil then a chance that it would always come back.

Ilex Crenata i have tried and they did not thrive at all. Yew i've tried and they hate cold wet soil to mine is out. The two i did plant died. Haven't seen Lonicera so will have a look.

Thanks Loli. You can get the Fungus Fighter from the same company but not the FF Plus by the looks of it. Most mentions of it are pretty recent so maybe not on the shelves yet.

The smell of Rose scent on the last day of October is a wonderful thing.

If the weather stays warm (we can hope) we may still be smelling them at Christmas! :)

Cut the grass today. Latest ever. Needed it as im not having what happening last year when it grew over winter then flopped and created bare patches.
                  Garden very wet.

Gardening in winter in my garden is horrendous. Walking on the wet sticky clay that sticks to everything is a nightmare, digging is hard work but despite this, i moved a rose today and i moved the Hibiscus. Again another plant that lives and flowers but doesnt thrive, so in the new position, ive added loads of organic matter in the hope that it will look and last longer.

I have decided to mulch the garden this winter. I haven't done this before so can anyone advise (a) the best type (b) thickness (c) the plants that a dormant and under ground do you mulch over them.

Acidic plants do not do well here to i'm guessing my soil type id neutral/alkaline.

@Mr Grinch not used one before, but if your acid plants aren't doing very well and you've got a real Xmas tree use the pine needles as a mulch around them. Plus make sure you don't use normal plant feed to feed them
