My newly planted box are doing well, but i have very well drained soil.
I too have a tree peony which I've kept potted this past year. It did have a flower when I got it which was snapped off when it fell over in a strong breeze. Since then it seems to have grown a bit. I didn't know they were short lived? We have herbaceous peonies here which must be over 30 years old. They'd got so big I had to dig some bits up for a friend.

Took a big decision today. The kids flower/veg patch has gone. It just wasn't working, due to the wet of that corner, anything with a decent root would die in winter and in summer only shallow root crops like lettuce would grow. The kids were bored with it so i took out all the soil, decent stuff top soil compost mix but boy what a pong, proof that it was just festering underneath. All the soil has now been spread to mulch my last border. In the spring, the wood will be taken out and i have decided to do them a little wildlife pool. See how what works out.

Good idea to put a wildlife pool there instead if it's so wet. You also get the fun of choosing some pond plants! :blue thumb:

Im looking to get a good size Ceanothus 'Pershore Zanzibar' but everywhere i have seen they are small plants. Does anywhere have any idea where i could get a 3 to 4 foot specimen ?
