How's the Buxus doing that you potted up Mr G?

 

They are ok. They havnt changed much. There are a few that are too far gone i think but others that are growing. I will leave them in the posts for a while then re-asses in the autumn.

 

Just got back from a few days in Italy visiting Tivoli's Villa d'Este and the water gardens at Ninfa and wow after four days and what looked like some rain, the growth of plants and weeds is marked. Busy day Wednesday hoeing.

Beautiful Mr Grinch and the Wisteria is stunning!

 

I thought i would like Villa D'Este at Tivoli more, amazing structure, Box formal lines, with panoramic views and vistas but i was wrong. I thought the up keep at Tivoli to be poor, lots of weeds, and areas in need of repair. Planting is very sparse, mainly roses, wisteria and bulbs. The wife said though it was the more romantic of the two which i would agree. Ninfa on the other hand is everything my OCD for symmetrical appearance would shy away from. No formality or structure yet i found the place enchanting, bewitching even. The garden set around ruins, with climbing roses trained around those ruins, running water channels crisscrossing the area with the main stream running to the side with the clearest of clear water. The sound of birdsong a constant in the semi dappled shade of the tree and ruins. Even though the place was full, so many in fact that each party had its own guide, the place was still peaceful and restful.

Needed that rain last night. Some of the new perennials i planted a few weeks ago were actually showing signs of drought.

I must say the tree Peony is looking great this year since i moved it to a more shadier spot. It only gets morning sun now rather than the afternoon and evening and its flowers are so much better. The pink bleached in the hot sun, now its vibrant and amazing.

Trimmed box cones today which i will turn into a square. Just too hard to get a good cone shape. They look better. The box in the raised area around the cones have greened up really well and showing signs of growth. Maybe is is not lost with these.

Everything else growing well although the Lupins once again do not seem to be growing well at all. Maybe their time in my garden is at an end.

For the first time in ages, i feel i'm getting somewhere with the garden. Clipped the box hedge yesterday, i think one more year and it should be where i want it to be. The Box around the play area and pool has greened up really well aswell. Everything looking good. The Hornbeam hedge is starting to look like a hedge. I think it needs to grow another 2 feet higher, but i will be trimming the front and backs later on in the year. All three Sorbus seem to have survived. Two are looking ok now they have become established with the one alive but with massive die back to the main stem. I will leave it and decide whether it goes in the winter. Plant of the day, Sambucas "Something Cant Remember", not Black Lace the other. Put some bedding in to plug gaps and another Sambucus in between the two Sorbus to fill a gap and to get a bit of red leaf.

Marvellous Mr G nice to see you sticking with tradition and clipping on Derby Day There's no wonder the toffs cleared off to races and left us mere mortals to do the clipping,I find it rather nerve racking trying to get it looking just so.Mine is a little ropey not helped by dogs and chickens using it as a cut through
