@Busy-Lizzie that's good to know about Arabian Nights - it's the only one I've got in the garden and has survived a couple of years in the border despite the damp and tyrannosaurus snails (they normally eat everything). David Howard in a pot survived a couple of years but got killed winter before last. I got another this year and I think I'll hide the pot somewhere sheltered with a cover on it to keep it dryer.

@CarolineL I have David Howard in our Norfolk garden. It grew huge, too big, over 6ft, so I dug it up and gave it away a year ago. I must have left some behind because it has grown back again.

Goodness @Busy-Lizzie - mine never got that big! But I think it likes it drier than here, so I'm not surprised it did well in Norfolk! It's a really good plant though.

I'm yet to find a Dahlia that likes it dry, I always thought they like a good amount of moisture, I gave up growing them mostly because you have to water them all the time or they get stunted, and the flowers fall to pieces after a couple of days.

I don't water my Norfolk dahlias much as we spend quite a bit of time in France in summer. I water the dahlias in France as it's sunnier and drier there.
