If you feed well, pot on, and keep it in a conservatory / greenhouse my experience has been that you can get a 6 or 7 footer in the first year :blue thumb:

I have a musa sikkimensis red tiger.
It's growing quite fast now and upon inspection tonight there are roots coming through the drainage holes on the pot.
Do I pot it on again or is it to late?

Thought I'd just put this in here rather than start another nana thread:)

I bought this as a fairly small plant back in April, it was unnamed.
I'm thinking it might be Dwarf cavendish.
              Any thoughts?

Does look identical to the dwarf bananas I bought from Lidl last year Pete which I believe were Dwarf Cavendish :)

Its growing a very dense crop of pups, not sure whether to disturb it, and remove at least some of them, or to just let it get on with it.

From memory Dwarf Cavendish [it does look like that] is hard to over winter?

I got mine through last winter by overwintering them on a warm windowsill in the house (they weren't as big as yours Pete), so I suspect a heated greenhouse will be needed to ensure keeping it alive????

Don't know about Dwarf Cavendish, but Nanas tend to drip from the leaf tips, which may be a problem in some rooms

On one hand I'd like it to grow. on the other, I'd like it to stay a reasonable size this year.
I dont want it so big that it wont fit into the conservatory come late Sept.
On the otherhand it would be nice to overwinter there, slowly ticking over, then move to the greenhouse for possible fruit next summer.

You'd think that "Dwarf Cavendish" would be a reasonable size, eh? :heehee: I reckon 2M - 2.5M - and that's just the pseudostem of course :(

I believe there is an "Extra Dwarf Cavendish" variety ... :heehee:
