      dim,
I like your choice of songs :dbgrtmb:

I bought my first Joan Baez album in 1961 :rolleyespink: and have quite a few of them.

Another female singer that was one of my favourites (amongst many) was Miriam Makeba (Mama Africa)

She sang a variety of songs from African folk to songs from the shows (her version of Sunrise Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof is excellent but I can't find it at the moment).

This song shows how good a voice she had.

And this is a very early filming of her - rarely seen (ignore the the first part of the clip as it is a noisy ad for a film)

thanks Shiney ... was just trying to add a few tracks/artists that many would not have heard of before .... and not everyone's 'cup of tea'

I do have some of Miriam's cd's .... the best song that she sang was one called Pata Pata and another good one is the 'click song' .... sadly, she passed away recently ... these are on youtube

here are a few more songs by south african artists that I enjoy:

      Thanks dim,

In 1963/4 The Click Song became popular over here as well. It's on her first album 'Miriam Makeba' (1960). I've still got that album and her next five. :dbgrtmb:
She married Hugh Masekela and they worked well together for some years.

      Miraflores,
She was born in Prospect Township, Johannesburg, South Africa.

The clicking sound you can hear during the song is formed by the mouth and there are different types of clicks depending on where in the mouth the click is made.

This is all part of the Xhosa language and the different clicks can change the meaning of the words. I did learn how to do the clicks but can't do them now.
