That's weird. FC posted a tune by Chicken Shack, 'I'd Rather Go blind', originally done by Etta James...

Oddly, and no detriment to the huge talent that Etta James was, I personally prefer the Chicken Shack version - no idea why really.

As with most things, you will probably have noticed that my taste in music is generally older than I am - I swear I was born a decade or two late.

fc, I don't disagree with you about that. The lyrics were actually written by Etta (she credited it to Billy foster for tax purposes) and she was the first one to sing the song.

I too prefer the Chicken Shack version. I think a lot depends on which version one hears first:)

Hi Stephen ... I will do it for you, querido ... it's called Fado here.

Deolinda de Jesus is someone we have met and I have her CDs and I 'think' this may be the music you are talking about ... not to everyone's taste to be sure, but we like her, enjoyed her performance and her company and meeting she and her husband the next day (and she then was in jeans and an anorak ... :heehee: ) ...

I've just spent the last hour or so blasting my ears off with some ELO - - most of the tracks from 1973, and still as fresh as a daisy. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see that sort of talent again.

Not really my thing, but I love the instrumentals. I've probably posted this before, taken from what is, imo, a wonderful film, Captain Corelli's Mandolin....

Yes Victoria, I'm familiar with Fado, well the music type anyway, I'm also fairly familiar with Afro-Portuguese and Brasilian Fado (I dont know if it has another name though)

Interesting, Pelagia is a shared Greek/Italian name.. Pelagia as a latin name, and Pelagia as a Greek name (ie Agios pelagia), so it's quite apt given Captain Corelli's Mandolin was set in Kefalonia. Not surprising though as Kefalonia has seen alot of cultural changes from italians and Greeks. Corelli's Mandolin is a good film though!

Here's a song from Greece; by a singer called Anna Vissi (shes quite a famous singer in Greece, shes been going since about 1979!) The song is called 'Eleni', it's quite a sad song, it's about her niece, Eleni, who died, and she sings this song to honour her.. obviously it's in Greek, there is a translation on the comments part under the song..
