You have already crossed it off Sal

But you would regret not visiting Durham and it's Cathedral with Castle
It does not have to be the Religious bit, the vista and area is fabulous
      and steeped in history
There is a very small house on the riverside below, built for a Polish Count who
      was only 1.2 mtr tall
The riverside walk is brilliant and it can be as long as you want it to be
As it is like the spokes on a wheel (more horseshoe shaped) you can do
the full walk in an hour, or if you are getting fed up just go up one of the spokes
and you are back in the centre of the city in minutes
In the town centre there is a statue of a general on his horse, in bronze
the artist said he would kill himself if anyone could find fault NONE
until a blind man advised the horse had no tongue

Oh you do need to visit

Sal, sorry for the delay in getting back to you - to say the last two days have been sent to try me is an understatement!

Some of the places I am thinking of are (and can be done as a sort of circular tour idea, in either direction really):

Culzean Castle (pronounced Cull~ane) which lives on the West Coast; very pretty area, and not too challenging to start with.

Very near to there, is Electric Brae which is essentially an optical illusion; I have been a couple of times, and I cannot work it out, and its well worth a look just for the fact that it is one of natures oddities!

Crossing back east a wee bit, past Glasgow you find Loch Lomond which is essentially at the foot of The Trossachs; Loads of hotels and B&B's around Luss/Balloch/Alexandria that might be suitable as a base for a few days exploring?

A bit further up again, you have Inveraray (beautiful little place), which amongst other things is home to Inverary Castle and Inveraray Jail - - such a relaxing, beautiful wee place to spend a few days and in reality this would be a much better place to base yourself for a week or so to go touring from; from here, places such as Oban, Loch Awe, Killin etc are all easily do-able within a day trip.

Close to Inveraray, there is Crarae Garden which is a lovely place to spend an afternoon, with a good mixture of plant species to keep your inner gardener happy :)

Also close by, Loch Awe is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery you could choose to find; on the bank of Loch Awe, there is also Cruachan Power Station which is really quite fascinating - they do tours where they take you right inside the power station (built underground inside the mountain), and they even have exotic plants in there as it is so warm.

As mentioned above, Oban is not much further along the road from Loch Awe, and is another lovely little town well worth a visit just for the scenery and the sea views.

I'll be back with Killin, Callander, Glen Coe and onwards later or tomorrow (need to get my dinner now! ), and will PM you my email address in case you need it.

Penny in Ontario - if any of this is of interest to you, I am more than happy to send you my email also in preparation for your visit :)
