Hi Wiseoldowl, Hi Hec, thank you both for your replies. I think you're right Hec, I know mine have never bothered with the Day Lily I have, so I'm not too worried about that one. I think I ought to do some more research before I finally hand them back to my mother in law. I'd love to keep them really, as they were to begin forming a coloured theme border I'd like to establish over the years. The Orange of Vesuvius is just the colour of Orange I'm after, that coupled with deep Purples was to become a set theme border. But, I'm still in two minds as to whether I should keep them.
I know that the cats most likely wouldn't go by them. but perish the thought if they became ill, because of them.
I might give my Vet a call in the morning, to see what she says. Failing that. I might just have to keep them in my Greenhouse (the cats don't go in there) and enjoy them for myself.
    Ohh what a pickle!

Even if you don't have lilies I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of your neighbours do.

I've been reading up the blurb about it and it's pretty scary BUT I still think it must be quite rare or we would hear a lot more about it.

I bet the biggest problem comes when they are cut flowers, in the house and the vase placed in an area the cat regards as 'his'. The same in the garden - suspect they are the greatest risk if you choose to plane them in just that spot of the garden that gets the first of the morning sun or the last of the evening, or is in some other way irresistible to cats.

I can't see many cats eating them BUT the danger fro them cleaning the pollen of themselves would seem a harder one

You're right there too Hec. The lady who lives in the house closest to me, is a very, very keen gardener, and has a vast array of plants & crops. Her garden is absolutely stunning, and really puts mine to shame, so I dare say she may well have some varieties of lillie, I might have to pop around and ask her this weekend. :thmb:

This was the last of our eleven "Gulliver lilies" to bloom, still it was worth waiting for it. That gives us four different colours. This one, like the last isn't very tall this year and all of them required staking, but we've high hopes for them next year.

Just about fed up with my Lilies and all because of the dreaded Lily Beetle which seem to breed non-stop in my garden.
There is still no way of ridding the garden of these creatures and my last resort is now to dig them all up and take them to the tip..........they look so bad both before and after flowering which is sad because I too love the plants.

I found a red beetle on my lillies , plus a lot of black poo all over them .

If you squish the poo between your fingers, it is all squidgy and some has red stuff in it.
I caught the little blighter in a bottle, but it died almost straight away.

The bottle is from a well known chemist, and contained tea tree and witch hazel (their own brand). I did wash it out before catching the beetle though.
It was purchased a couple of years ago, but I can't remember how much it cost. It was a foaming face wash, and smells like marmite. Not literally of course, I just mean that you either love it or hate it.
I have saved the bottle in case I see more of these beetles.
I believe they sell a tree tea and witch hazel gel too, but that comes in a tube, and would be more difficult to catch a beetle in .
