    Don't you dare wander off from this lovely forum...you're a valued member!!!!. Yes I know exactly what you mean about the other forum ...I was a member there too, well still am I suppose but haven't posted for over 3 years now. Didn't like it at all....certain members were quite rude at times and very confrontational too....even to really new novice gardeners, I use to feel really sorry for them.:sad:

      Thanks. They do resemble doves but in the 23 years we have owned the home I have only ever seen these. Possibly a White Portuguese Tumbler. Don't know where they live. The neighbours had coops built against the house; don't know if current folk still have them or if the birds live in the orange trees or I believe there is a big walnut tree on their land amongst others, olives, etc.

        They call them squabs here too.I found this very interesting so thought I would share. My Dad had a pair of squabs fall from their nest a couple of years ago...they definitely aren't the prettiest of babies!!!:heehee:,

        Why don’t you ever see baby pigeons?

          You are so right about the other forum,..while nobody was even a little nasty to me i squirmed at how new members were treated,..Monty Don always directed new gardeners towards the forum from his TV Program and even he was given bad treatment,..the only rules were what long standing members made up,..like when your Thread reached 1000 posts it should be shut down and started afresh,..i reached 1000 posts in 3 months,..i couldn't see myself even linking to previous Threads every 3 months,..i admit the first year it took 12 months to reach the 1000 and that was including posts in reply to mine,..so i said farewell,..i like it here so when i find a better way to make a donation than by way of Pay Pal i will,..i did try but the latter kept insisting they did the job :whistle:

            @Victoria ,..i wouldn't mind at all seeing those birds you have visiting they look very nice.

            @Upsydaisy ,..that was a very informative link,..it shows i was wrong in thinking they were Dove Like in appearance when young,..so the young pigeon is never seen as it doesn't leave the nest until almost fully grown and one would find it hard to tell young from adult,..i loved the description on how a young pigeon appears,..' Butt Ugly ' and its an apt description.

            Now i must find out what birds i spotted here and thought them to be Doves,..oh boy i need to be informed about the birds and bees :sparrow:

                The ones in the picture from @Victoria are what we in Shineyland call Collared Doves. We have two pairs in our garden and they have the black stripe round the back of the neck, as you can just see in the one on the left. :blue thumb:

                @strongylodon is our bird expert. :)

                  Funnily enough, when I woke in the wee hours, Collared Doves popped into my head! :hate-shocked: I heard them cooing at sunrise and have just found a link. We have wondered for years what a horrible squawk like sound comes from that we sometimes hear ... it is on this link!!! Mystery solved!

                      I've actually reintroduced a "open" Feeder to encourage the bigger birds who were being frustrated by the caged Feeders, and it seems to be working;

                        I'm working on the opposite :noidea:. The pheasants have just eaten 1kg of seed from one of the closed feeders in only four hours. :mute:
