I couldn't get the little blighters to germinate for love nor money this year.

I'm growing 4 plants, and to get that many I ended up sowing a total of 32 seeds!

They seem to be doing well though. I grow them in fairly shallow but large-rimmed pots. To stop the stems rotting I prop one end of the pot up slightly so the surface is sloping and the water runs off the stems.

Homegrow cucumbers are amazing though. They taste like a completely different veg to supermarket ones.

I have just repotted my cucumber into one that I hope will be big enough but it is on the side of the greenhouse that gets the sun so should I shade it.

I do believe the best advise is yes...give it some shade.. seems they like the warmth but not scouching sun.

Sassy don`t be downhearted try again next year ,I have grown cues for the last 2 years in a plastic greenhouse and had some tremendous fun. :rotfl:

This year smart snazzy new "glass" greenhose ,the proper job ,and I also have had abject failure. I really don`t know why :cnfs:

I think sometimes you have to look at it and think ,"Yes I am doing this to provide something for us to eat but its giving me enjoyment", take pleasure in it aswell Your successes and failures. :yho:

Thats why most of us started gardening in the beginning. :gnthb:

I picked the next cucumber this morning and as promished it is the biggest yet.
So you see.. If I can do this in a conservatory I`m sure anybody can but I cant help thinking theres a little luck required.

Your leaves look extremely green and healthy capney. I have a plant growing outdoors and although there are cucs growing nicely ( one very nice one which I shall probably pick tomorrow :thumb: ) the lower leaves are going mottled and yellowy. I have been feeding it with tomato feed.

The dont look so healthey now. In fact I have removed one the plants today because it was proper poorly looking. The one above in the picture is also showing signs of losing the first leaves.
I assume this is the natural way to go.
