My first garden!

Another trip to B&Q to pick up some onions and garlic bulbs. Turns out, there's no bulbs there. But while I was there.... clearance items!!

I got 2 more of these plants. As requested, a close up of the flowers. The other 2 are actually flowering so I'm going to get pics tomorrow. I also have their labels somewhere so I can check the names soon.

I have the labels for these plants somewhere. They have fuzzy cone shaped flowers and as you can see, they've seen better days. £2 for each pot, which had 3 or 4 plants in each. I'll have to protect them from frost but it will be worth it I think. The red fuschia is new too. That needs a spot to live.

I also caught my fiancee checking out the crop seedlings. I want her to be involved in the garden so I took this chance and ran with it. We got 3 seedling trays for £2. One tray of leeks, one of brocolli and one of kale. The Kale is planted in the L shaped planter. The soil doesn't look great but it seems to have plenty of nutrients. It just needs breaking up and a bit of organic matter mixing in.



The broccoli is planted in the lower tier of the raised bed, along with some carrots which have been sown today. They will be under a cloche in winter.



Ants plants are coming along nicely, except for the dead twig which fell over. That's been composted now. RIP. The two in the middle are also broccolli. We like broccolli!

My potatoes are doing nicely as well!


I was starting to wonder if the potatoes had rotted away with the masses of rain in the first few days. Apparently not!

The leeks are in the cold fram at the moment. I've also filled 2 plug trays (is that what they're called?) with herbs, spring onions and honesty. I did really well with them until I dropped one of the trays about 2 inch and some of the compost jumped out. I might end up with a mix of herbs in each cell now They will be going in that garden somewhere at some point.

I also saw this on sale so we bought it.



That's sitting at the end of the lawn. Bright yellow/orange will look nice against the purple buddlhiea.

I've ID'd some of the plants too! The bulbs are called Nerine if I've remembered that correctly. Then the other plant from earlier is called Spirea Japonica. This one:

I got a snap of the hydrangea at my grans. This is what the hydrangea in my garden used to look like. I hope it grows this well



I've also got a path laid. I just need to sink the flagstones into the soil a bit. Then if I get the edging stones at the base of fences I will have a clear patio! Wahoo!

 

Pic 1 is definitely Crocosmia ( Montbretia ).

Fuchsia is " Tom West ", it's a hardy variety but I wouldn't plant any Fuchsia out into the garden now. It won't have made sufficient root growth by the end of autumn to keep it alive over winter.

The fuzzy flowers are Celosia, they're generally grown as annuals as they need heat over the winter, not just frost free, and, they are easily grown from seed.

Re the plants I sent ya, top left second one in. That looks like a clump of Sweet Williams, if it us they need separating.

Dead twig which fell over....... Which one was it ? I never throw a plant away till at least 2 months after it appears dead as although the top growth looks agonna it may be rooting or establishing itself underground.

What are your potatos planted in, it looks pink !

Nerines are beautiful, they should start flowering in about a months time.

That Hydrangea looks stunning ( sorry, looked ), I think I would have left it till early winter..

I wouldn't do it to mine (when I get them)....... but it is quiet hilarious that some owners would go to that much trouble..... bet they look like talc puff puffs running around the garden.... I think its quiet funny... sorry just my sick sense of humour

Celosia need heat? Interesting! Well I will be keeping these under cover in the raised bed. Hopefully that will be enough. Their label just said cover from frost so maybe it's a hardier variety?

Split the Sweet Williams up... got it. I will need to get them out of the raised bed in about a month. Based on how much they've perked up over the last week, I suspect they will be bulking up quite well soon. They should be ok to go in the ground before too long.

Dried twig... erm... It was the Lysiamachia Punctata. It was dried, leaning over onto the soil and the roots were dried up despite being in moist soil. I will scavenge the compost heap for it though. It will be near the top, under some runner bean plants on a bed of moist grass clippings All is not lost!

The potatoes are planted in compost. BROWN compost. Get your eyes tested Ant No... I think my phone picked up the colour of the green bags and tried to autobalance the colour and made everything more red. Hence pink soil.

I look foward to seeing the Nerines, although I'm not sure if they will flower now that I've disturbed them.

The Hydrangea had to come out now unfortunately. Another one needed to go into where this one was living. The new one was causing the plant pot to fall over because the heads were so big. And the hole in the fabric (under the pebbles) is tha same size as the plant pot. No other choice really.

As for the raised bed, yes I need labels. It's all written on a sheet of paper at the moment.

Oh and @Sheal I'll have the stepping stones path done tomorrow if the weathers nice. I'll make sure to get photos
