I welcome all suggestions like this because I have no idea about when to plant things :D I've only ever maintained gardens, I've never really been involved in the planting/propagation stuff. I know trees need planting after september, when they become dormant, but other than that I've no idea

I will go and look at bulbs now, thanks for the advice!

Teaser: I'm currently discussing varieties of trees with a supplier and might be getting a tree delievered soon :dancy:

          Me again! :runforhills:

It's STILL raining. Great for my water meter, but I am weary that fungus problems could start to set in if the lawn doesn't dry out a bit.

Anyway, I'm sat inside researching stuff for the garden. @Beckie76 and @Anthony Rogers have been really helpful by teaching me stuff about plants so a special thanks to those two for their efforts! I'm starting to get some plans together now with regards to timing in the garden. I decided to buy a load of bulbs yesterday with the aim of getting some colour in the garden in Spring. I think I've got about 200 bulbs being delivered soon :noidea: It's somewhere around the 200 mark.

Also, I've settled on the tree! It's going to be a Copper Norway Maple tree. The leaves should turn shades of orange/red/purple in autumn and the trunk is a light colour, which turns purple over time. It's also got some nice red colours in winter! Hoorah! It's 150-180cm tall (5-6ft) and should give a nice bit of height to the garden and help block the view down the drive. I just need to figure out how to put up a fence AND A TREE without disrupting the lawn. The turfers didn't follow my plans to the letter which has messed things up a bit. I might need to attach a fence to a concrete base somehow... sheesh

Anyway, that's making my brain hurt. Back to something simple. I was putting this together at 10:30pm yesterday haha. I did it without making a noise though so it's ok... the neighbours didn't get woken up!

THAT, my friends, is a lovely strawberry planter! It's 4ft wide and each tier will hold 12 strawberry plants. It will allow me to grow 3 types of strawberry (one in each tier) which means I can get strawberries for a longer period of time.

          TOP - Christine Strawberry - April/May
          MIDDLE - Alice Strawberry - May/June
          BOTTOM - Malwina Strawberry - July/August

I will do the usual trick of keeping one or two plants to form runners and use the rest for fruit. That way, I can replace the plants every 3 years to make sure they keep fruiting.

Can't wait for some sun!!! I want to get in the garden and get the raised beds in place :yahoo:

Rad I'm a little concerned about your choice of tree. Can you give me it's full name please? The tree I'm thinking of grows to a maximum height of 28 metres which would be far to big for your garden and the roots would sap everything from your soil not allowing anything else to grow.

Yeh, I'm revisiting the tree idea again. The full name is Acer Platanoides Schwedleri. The idea was to limit the amount of root growth by containing it within a root barrier and also do some pruning up top. After talking with an online company, they've said that this would work and I could have a tree which nearly stays at the same height. Starting to doubt how accurate that information was.

I was planning on keeping the tree small, instead of getting a small tree that takes ages to grow to a nice height. Back to the drawing board!

It's an awkward situation where I need to block the view down the drive, but the spot I'm trying to fill is right next to the lawn and right next to a concrete shed-base. It's probably easier for me to take some pics later to show you what I'm trying to do.

                      Yes Ma'am :love30:

                      bulbs.png

                      I lied... it's 260 bulbs, 3 corms and 1 pot :yay:

I had to get daffodils... my fiancee LOOOOOVES them so I couldn't resist. I should have them flowering from January until July hopefully. I may have some more to order, once I figure out what perennials are going where. When the plan develops a bit more, I will have a better idea. This was my kickstarter purchase

It's all an act... honest :doh:You don't think I would've bought a tree that grows to 28m right?
