Raised beds OUTSIDE?? But that means I have to go outside to look at them :noidea:

Yeh, I'll stick the plants in the ID section at some point. :blue thumb:

Hahaaa :snork: I'm guessing from your comment that we are allowed to mention brands/names?

The plants cover about 1 square meter at the moment so I need to do a few trips to fill the garden :doh:Do you know of any good (and preferably cheap) places to go to get big flowering shrubs? The colour scheme is white, yellow, orange and red. With some purple. But no blue (yet)

Yes, brand names are okay, GC members give them good and bad press along the way. :) As gardeners it would be quite restricting if we couldn't use them. We can't compare things that benefit us, like good and bad composts if we aren't allowed to distinguish between them by using a name.

Perhaps other members in your area can recommend nurseries for buying large shrubs, but they won't come cheap. It's also worth looking on the interwebby thingy for places in your area. :)

              Hi Rad,

Regarding shrubs, I think if I were you I would wait now till around November time when the bare root plants start to be offered. You'll find them much better priced.

A company you could look out for is Parkers. During Dec /Jan they usually sell off a lot of their stock cheaply. Last year we had 3 bare root roses off them for £9.99 and they've been brilliant.

They usually put mini- catalogues in tv books etc. It's no use sending for their main catalogue unless you want to buy in bulk, but, saying that they are handy to have as a reference.

I've just had a look at their Spring catalogue for 2015 and here's a taster of what they were offering then.........

              4 Potentilla for £9.98
              12 Lavender for £8.99
              10 Heather for £14.98
              6. Buddleia for £9.99
              6 Hardy Fuchsia £3.99

There are also loads of other shrubs at around £2.99 each.

YOU are a g'damn star! :pathd:

I've been looking online and to fill my garden with plants it's going to be a small fortune to get this looking good in the next few months. I've found someone on ebay that's selling 10 shrubs (1-2ft tall and potted, not bare rooted) all for £50 including P&P. That's the best that I could find.

I might buy those 10 shrubs to give me something to enjoy in the garden over the next 4 months and then fill the other gaps later on with Parkers plants. Then again it's tempting to wait and get it cheaper.

                Tough choice :rolleyespink:

Make sure you know what you're getting before you send for them.

Another option I forgot to mention earlier is if you have a Poundland near you. They do a good selection of bare root shrubs and Roses from about Nov onwards.

Have a look through the " Show us your recent purchases " thread for about the last month or so as they're now selling hardy perennials that can go straight in.

Car boot sales are another way of picking up cheap plants. :)

Well I haven't done anything in the garden other than water the lawn and admire it. It's growing! :hate-shocked:

I also had a bit of fun watching the local bumble bees landing on the new plants. Who can blame them! Glorious!

                        20150803_121338.jpg

I have, however, ordered some more stuff to go in the garden. There should be 1 tonne of "vegetable compost" being delivered on a pallet. I'm hoping it will be dropped off at the top of drive instead of the on the road. I only have a trug (with no handles... might need a new one). I don't fancy getting a wheelbarrow as this will be the last "heavy lifting" job I need to do.

And the recent skip lorry put it's feet down to make sure it didn't tip over. It cracked a flag stone! I've just laid those! bahhh
