Hi @Kevin Cowans I hope your rough months are behind you now, and you can look forward! New doors are ver expensive. There are specialist uPVC fettlers around who sort out such problems, and draughty windows etc. Might be worth trying to find one. In my area a knowledgeable guy sorted out a door that was letting in water at minimal cost

Thanks, I really hope so too.

I did look into having someone out to sort the Doors but because the Seals are on the underside of the Door, no solution would be guaranteed.

The only guaranteed solution would be to replace them.

I got a Quote for the two Doors last September which was approximately £3200.

I contacted the Company in January to let them know that i will still be getting them done to be told that there had been a Price Increase since I was Quoted and due to the Energy Price Increases there would be another Price Increase on 1 February.

All fun.

Well, I have finally finished Weeding and tidying the Back Garden, finally, it seemed never ending.

Now, there is just the Front Garden to do, oh joy

I purchased some Primula Denticulata and Penstemon Burgundy to fill out the relevant areas, hopefully they will grow well, especially with all the Rain we have had recently.

The Lawns have recovered well since I have been cutting it to 35mm rather than 50mm.

According to the Lawn Suppliers, by cutting the Lawns at 50mm it was restricting the growth of the lower growing Grasses in the Lawn, cutting the Lawns at 35mm has allowed the lower growing Grasses to grow and fill in, it makes sense when you think about it.

Well, I seem to have had another casualty in the Garden.

The 'Euphorbia characias Silver Swan' looks to have been damaged, probably during the Landscaping last Year.

Another one has been Ordered and should be here this Week.

On a more positive note, I have finally managed to get the Front Garden Weeded, I really hate being out the Front.

I have Cut the Back Lawn so I just have the Front Lawn to do which I am hoping to do Tomorrow before the Rain returns on Wednesday.

I am getting there, slowly but surely.

Hello all

The Front Lawn has now been cut so everything is completed, for now.

I just have to wait to get the Dwarf Weeping Cherry in the Front Garden removed which is suffering from Dieback.

In the Back Garden, there is an area behind the Water Feature that I want to fill but am unsure about what with.

The area is shown here:



The area I want to fill is behind the Water Feature, between the Phormium and the Weigela.

I am thinking that a couple of Hosta would work quite well there as the Fence faces East and is Shaded.

Do you think Hosta would be suitable?

I do have a Hosta, to the Left of the Phormium, I am still trying to identify it but I think it is 'Patriot' although I am not sure.

Once it grows I will take a Photo and hopefully get it identified.

The Hosta I have has Green Leaves with a White Edging and has Lilac Flowers.

Hi Kevin,

As the Phormium and Weigela mature they will fill that space and probably hide your water feature to a certain extent. You can prune the Weigela but not the Phormium as it will ruin it's shape. Hosta's will be okay temporarily but will be smothered by the other plants as time goes on.

Looking at the Weigela it would probably be a good idea to partially prune it at the end of the growing season, this will help it fill out.

Hello all

I hope you are well.

I have a Fern in my Back Garden that I do not know what it is, I think it is the 'Copper Shield Fern' but am not sure.

The Young Leaves start off a Copper Colour and then turn Green.

I am trying to find out how to Care for it, but not knowing what it is I am coming up empty.

One thing I do know is that it is not like the other Ferns that I have in the Front Garden, in as much as there is no Mass of material at the Base like the other Ferns, it looks more like a Shrub.

Any suggestions as to how to Care for this Fern?

Well, I have finally, finally, been able to replace the Drip Irrigation in the Front Garden with Drip Line.

So, now, everything is completed in the Front and Back Garden, for now, I just need to keep on top of it.

Hi Kevin,

I'm using a new computer and was hoping to save your photo of the Weigela so I could mark where to prune it. The set up is very different and unfortunately I need more practice. So if you bear with me I'll describe where to prune....

I hope this makes sense. Just behind the upright of your water feature in the photo there is an upright fence post. Immediately to the right of that there is a branch that is shorter than the others. I would prune all the others to the same height as that. In my previous post I said to prune at the end of the growing season. I'm sorry, I should have said prune when it has finished flowering.

Sorry, I can't help you with the Fern. They are plants that I haven't introduced into my garden being surrounded by them in the natural landscape here.

On the Subject of Weigela, I have another, in the opposite Bed that was cut down Last Year as it was in the way of the Landscapers.

Hopefully you can see it well enough from this Photo:



Sorry about the Photo but this is the best I can do, I did try taking the Photo straight on with the Fence behind, however, because of the Clematis Montana behind it you could not make out the Weigela.

It has grown somewhat since Last Year but it needs some Pruning to get it back into Shape.

Any suggestions?
