    Hiya Johny.

Normally, there would be a roof vent, although just having the door open would I'd have thought be enough to keep the temperatures down. I'd be interested to know if others think there might be a problem with this?

IMHO roof vent creates a gentle convection which is not stressful (due to causing excess transpiration) compared to a draught, which is what you get when you open the door.

The smaller the greenhouse the more that forced air ventilation is the only way to keep temperatures down. Obviously on greenhouses spanning multiple acres they don't rely on "just opening the door" :heehee: so somewhere in between the two sizes you get to the point where convection is possible.

I reckon at about 12x10 or 10x8 you can get away with convection most of the time (except for very hot days). I never bother to paint mine with "whitewash" anymore - although that is partly laziness rather than lack of need - I think I would use scaffolders debris netting if I needed to reduce light intensity

Poly tunnels usually only have open-door for ventilation (you can of course get roll-up sides, with insect netting, but I reckon that is fairly rare on amateur tunnels - certainly on the smaller ones)

So, yeah, I'm sure that open-door will be fine, particularly if the roof is not tightly fitting (that's good for the summer, but not good for the winter)

Thanks for that Kristen. Hmm, might make one of these myself to increase tomato production:)

Keep your search for a pucker greenhouse running on eBay / freecycle ... never know when the right thing will turn up.

      Hiya Kristen.

As I already have a greenhouse, I'm not really needing another. My thought was to provide more of a shelter than a greenhouse, as such. My thinking is that with something like this, I could plant out my later toms that would normally go outside, hopefully avoiding blight and extending the season. Any thoughts?

Another thing, I could make something that fits the available space...

My thoughts? I'd build another greenhouse  , can always find something to put in them - if not then grow something for some pin-money

I think the real problem is any sort of temporary / flimsey structure is subject to the blow-away / ripped-to-shreds problem :(

Are you just looking for a giant cloche, that you can put over them for a bit? or for the whole season? Anything like that is getting very close to needing to be a permanent polytunnel though ... I reckon manufacturers would not be slow to market them if they could

      Hiya Kristen.

I guess it would do the same job as a polytunnel. In my greenhouse, in the early season I add heat if necessary, to keep the toms going, so therefore I get a reasonably early crop. But the downside is that they are now coming to an end. Personally, I find that polytunnels can be a bit unsightly, and I don't REALLY have the space. As my greenhouse in made from cedar, I thought that something like this would fit in with the 'look'. Yes, it would be permanent:)

How about find a same/similar model on eBay and cannibalise it as an extension for yours?

      Hi Johny,

Really impressed with what you have done there, inspired me to sort one for myself. If you don't mind me asking, what was the overall cost?
