Yes it would be a good thread. How should we start it, "How to be a wise responsible" dog/pet owner? Number one: first get a book and read, then ask questions (but people need to know what questions to ask, another issue). This would be so educational. As a personal note: with raising a dog/cat there is so much out there to learn, I would never say I know it all, I have just been a continual seeker of knowledge on this subject. And because I love dogs on the other side is can be heart breaking when humans mistreat them because they don't want to do the homework first and they get a dog out of pure selfishness and ego satisfaction. Yes, Paula, we are on the same page. I do work with behaviorist in my field of MH/MR. And have worked neck to neck with Psychologist and Psychiatrists. Worked in the Psychiatric field in my first life for 12 years, then on to other human services areas. But enough about me. Later. The weather is wonderful here, my gardens are calling. I will shut down for later this evening.

Pal, not the rotweilers ive come across. Barked just like any other dog.

I guess they could be trained not to bark.

Your Rotties are gorgeous brought a tear to my eye though. My bro had a lovely Rottie, well she was lovely with me but aggressive with my bro. He's had a baby and I don't think he wanted her anymore and she has bitten him and someone else. He took her to a behaviourist and the breeder wouldn't have her back so he had her put down. He phoned me an hour before to tell me she was going so I didn't even have time to go get her. I begged him to let me have her but he wouldn't. I am still gutted and upset now. My bro is not getting another dog and good job too.

Thanks I hope she's happier in pet heaven than she was with my brother. At least now she can play with toys. He didn't like her having her toys as they made a mess. I expect he hates it at my house cause my 2 have got a huge toybox and they get their toys out when they want ;)

Oh, mine always had toys also. They even knew the names of their toys and could go get them if asked. And they knew one object was for chewing and one was for squeezing. In fact both are buried with their favorite toy.
One of my boys, I used to purposely drop a dirty sock on my way to the laundry room and then I would look back and say "go get that for me", and he would turn around and get it so cheerfully and bring it to me. I miss them still so, now thinking about it. --small tear.
Give yours a big hug for me.

Don't talk to me about Dawgs toys. Wally has that many and leaves em all over the place, you would think there were kids or infants in the house.;)

Yeah, give the pets toys. It's not a mess unless you let it be. Our garden has about 8 of Joyces toys all around it although we have stopped her bringing them indoors now. She finds my husbands socks & 'mouths' them, never chews even if we throw them for her indoors. Also, loves to suckle a towel (her ones, i add, lol) after shes been dried off. She, too, knows the difference between her 'ball/s' and her 'squeaks' as we call them.

If you want a showhome don't have a pet....or kids....etc, etc. You can still keep a nice house with them all!

LMRR, I'm sorry to hear about your brothers pet - but I know exactly where you're coming from without mentioning names! Thank goodness he's not going to get another.

I weep a little too reading this thread but sometimes with happiness at the lovely stories so keep it up everyone. I missed my Joyce so much when I was away & boy did I get a lovely welcome this morning,:).

    cheers
