little early i know but i have started to get the garden ready for winter, this is mainly due to being away with work and not having the time to do it at a later date.

so i have hacked down the big plants and started to wrap with straw and fleece

I get garden envy every time I see most on here and wish I could get the right look with mine, would really like some help for my 2017 plans and help on how I can really get the jungle look with the garden I have. I might be being hard on myself also as I am a novice and have come along way from a slope of grass garden I had to work with. The look I would really like is to have the borders full with plants with lots of green lush leaves and with other colors to break them up.

I might have to go back to basics and revisit the main garden design to allow for this look as I don’t think I have the planting space of the borders right. I will post some pics later of the current state of the garden and a massive list of plants I would like to get in 2017

Any help or guidance would be great

Many thanks for taking the time to read

          Jamie

Nice list, although not a lot of its hardy so will need protecting over winter. I would probably add these to your list too, classic Tropical (looking) plants that are hardy and look the part:-

Paulownia tomentosa, the one with the big leaves in your top picture on the rh side. Needs pruning hard in spring to get the big leaves, otherwise it turn into a tree very quickly!
                  Tetrapanex rex
                  dicksonia antarctica (needs winter protection)
dryopteris affinis cristata, a nice big fern
dryopteris erythrosora (I do love a fern)
Musa Basjoo or sikkimensis (both root hardy but protect stems for height)

The Tithonia (mexican sunflower ;)) looks great with the dark purple leaves of the Ricinus, its a combination I use in my garden.

My local nursery https://www.urbanjungle.uk.com/ has its sale on at the moment so worth a look.

good day all, so glad the weather is turning slowly! I have now opened the rear blinds to be see the garden and start again venturing out there for the growing season of 2017..

Got myself a lovely palm to plant next to the wooden pathway, now looking for a second one

Had my little helper getting the seed tray ready for this years new plants

We also decided to do a nice planter for the front door as it was looking dull that side of the house.

This was the winters favorite buy, so planted some tulips in his head today

Most of the garden looking bare and still under protection

This years project is to sort the left side with a wooden walkway, tree ferns and a small hut bar

Have you abandoned the water feature idea you had for that side Jamie?

yes, i still can't make my mind up on where to have the pond, as that is my biggest planting area i think it will be a mistake to compromise it with a pond

You could build a small raised pond on your patio? :)

That's not a bad idea as long as your daughter doesn't see it as a paddling pool from the lawn. The only other way is to move to a house with a bigger garden! :snorky:
