Thats coming on really nicely. As someone who moved into a new build property, I know that its can take time to get the garden in a place that you are happy with. I pretty much started again 3 years ago when I realised that I simply didnt have enough space to do everything I wanted and ended up with a garden that had lots going on, but didnt do anything well. Greenhouse went, compost bins removed, levelled off, etc, etc. Still a few thing that I would do differently in hindsight and may get round to that but got other projects on the go at the moment.

With a gap in the weather i managed to mow the grass for the first time of the year, one problem i did notice is that the front corner of the lawn (approx 2ft square ) has sunk. Looks like i need to skim the grass off in this area and adjust the height with more topsoil.

Also managed to plant my palm behind the light

Next job of the day was to uncover both of the banana plants, great news is they made it through the winter without rotting away

The small one in the planter looks worse for wear, but it pulled through last year looking the same!! Only downside with this plant is it doesn't grow much over the year so may need to look at improving the soil

Whilst out food shopping with the wife I spotted this and couldn't help myself slipping it in the trolley hidden with veg on top

I remember that catchphrase ... L**t the totally tropical drink :heehee: ... I digress

          It is looking good!!! :dbgrtmb:

Is it wise to unwrap the banana plants now? :dunno: Can't recall your location, Jamie, but you may well still be at risk of frosts and I'm not sure if that might prove a potential problem? But then I don't know owt about Tropicals
:ideaIPB: I'll tag in @pete because if anyone knows about this, he will

My M. basjoo has not been covered this winter, I think the stems have survived, but as usual looking pretty dead at the moment.
Usually if they are really dead, rather than just looking dead, they fall over at ground level.

i did post on another group and most said unwrap as any late frosts wouldn't hurt the main stems. But just to be on the safe side i check metcheck every day and am ready with fleeces just incase

Only new growth is likely to be damaged now, frost should, and I state "should" be pretty transient from now on.

Bought a tree fern today, bit unsure if it sends roots out or not? I dug a 10" hole and stamped the soil around the base ( still moves a bit )

Also got to work on finishing the walkway

I am waiting for mine to be delivered, cant wait. As I understand it, the living part is the crown and the roots are within the trunk itself as will make their way out in time. I would stake it if you can.

a quick walk around the garden tonight with the camera showing what is coming to life this spring.

Can't wait to see how the trex does this year, i'm expecting some big results!

moved my spider fatsia out of the pot and into the back border along with a small bamboo plant

Can't remember the name of this plant but they have shot up in the last few days and now flowering

Really can't wait to see this side of the garden develop this year

And last but not least, i have been working on the jungle walk path, reason for the shape is that i'm planting the edges heavy with large bamboo so you will never see which way you will be giving it a real jungle effect!

Forgot i also jet washed the patio

My 4ft tree fern finally arrived yesterday after I had to email and then call on Monday to complain. Then another arrived today, they seem to have sent me 2. I assume the second one is to apologise :snorky::snorky:
