Here are the first pics - fresh off the wire! The first lady is the one who cried.

Congratulations and very well done Oscar and MMD! I'm looking forward to seeing some pics along with all the rest of us.

I've read about dogs doing this job in Germany but never heard of cats or other animals doing so, but what a marvellous idea. Hope that it catches on over our way.

It's me again, I missed the pics when I posted, I forgot to turn the page (not the first time I've done that!) Oscar is a lovely cat and bet you are so proud of him.

What a lovely story MMD [IMG] and well done Oscar!!
My gran lives in sheltered housing, which is very good allowing them retain a lot of independence. But they're not allowed pets, meaning some people had to leave them behind. It's a shame you're not nearer then Oscar could give them a visit!!
It's a great thing you're doing and I'm sure the ladies will be sooo looking forward to his next visit. I bet there's lots of treats for Oscar next time!!!

Thanks all - his mamma certianly is proud of him, big time!

WW, why don't you see if PAT will get a volunteer to bring their PAT pet to your gran. Of course the home will have to make the application but if you find out and take them the details....

BTW, some of the MEN enjoyed the cuddle too!

Well done both...it is so sad that many older people in warden accomodation aren't allowed pets, when there is such clear evidence that pet owning and caring is good for people living alone.

Well done. My old dog, Duke, who I had to put to sleep in February, was a PAT dog for many years. We used to visit the local hospital every week. It was hard work but rewarding. Sometimes it could be heart breaking - there were several occasions when I was called back by relatives into one of the single bedded rooms. Usually the patient was about to pass on. That could be very sad but it meant Duke brought a little light into their lives at the very end.
I am sure your Oscar will go down a storm. He looks such a nice friendly cat. Unfortunately my new dog will never make a PAT dog - it cannot be trained into them. She is very much a guard dog/ protector and takes it very seriously. Duke just had such a charitable view of everybody and nearly everyone loved him.

Nice to meet another PAT owner, Geoff. Sad that he had to be put to sleep but he did a wonderful thing with all those patients.

I had a nice surprise today - I quite forgot that before the batteries died on me, someone had actually been able to take a couple of pics. Here is what I found!

These sweet ladies were quite enchanted by Oscar

And the manager of the home couldn't keep her hands of him! Just as well I had a firm grip in the lead!
