I can see bananas but definitely no palms.

Would suit more informal planting against a backdrop of carefully chosen autumn interest trees and flowering evergreens.

Best of luck getting to the planting stage Rob :D

The dog did seem to get in a lot of the pictures, she is a bit of a tart. [IMG]

Style and colour scheme..... Well, I will probably go for the cottage garden, messy style as that sort of suits me. Colour scheme will be most colours except for yellow. Got a thing about yellow plants...

Morning, Rob! Funnily enough, I'm not much for yellow flowers either, preferring pinks / oranges / purples.

You could put some Rosemary and Sage shrubs in, for colour and scent. My Rosemary is about 5 foot by 5 foot now, at three+ years old!

Also agree with Bananaman regarding autumn interest trees and evergreens such as a Choiysa (Mock Orange), Aucuba (which has red berries and you can get a variagated leaf variety) and Ceoanthus, the California Lilac.

We have a rather large philadelphus in the top right of this picture.

It was there when we moved in, didn't touch it for a couple of years and hacked it back quite hard after it flowered this year and it is now reshooting.

Smells gorgeous when it is out, and it is about 4m wide by 1m deep and about 4m high.

For the trees, I am looking at some of the following, although any advice would be appreciated.

    Tilia cordata
    Magnolia Grandiflora
Or an acer of some description

The problem is I need to buy a tree that is quite large, if anyone can recommend a supplier, it would be really appreciated. May post in the trees section as well.

    All the best

    Rob

Then there's Hilliers - aren't they the tree and shrub specialists?
