How is the yield this year? I posted elsewhere that my first early spuds (Foremost) are a good size, but I am not getting many tubers per plant. Hopefully, the later ones will be better.

 

Hi @Allotment Boy. The yield is perfect this year. Luckily we had enough rain before this extreme heat wave, and plants are in good condition. Lot of spuds under one plant, and only problem will be early ripening. It's main crop and it's not ideal to dig them out when is too hot.

 

Yes my main crop are looking better, I guess we won't really know till we dig them up later in the year.

 

Can you not leave them in the ground until cooler days? September maybe.

 

Hi @pete. It's possible, but also a risk. If you lave potatoes in the ground, they can sprout again if they have good condition, and that potato is ruined.

 

Oh OK, not something that happens over here, I dont think, unless they are left until the following spring.

 

I do try to leave my maincrop at least till the tops start to die down. The biggest risk (especially in wet humid conditions ) is blight, which I'm sure most of you know will ruin the crop.

 

Afternoon all. We had another huge storm with rain and thunders. I was at cottage yesterday, and sown few things. Now is all well soaked which is perfect. I also sown beans las Tuesday and it's already sprouting. Luckily I don't need to water veggies at least one more week.

I sown almost everything from this lot.


Didn't have much time, so I had a small harvest.


My favorite flower. They are now taller than me.

Thanks for the update. We had good rain a week ago, then some warm sun and it's made a huge difference. Courgettes are now a proper size, the greenhouse tomatoes are ripening, I can see the first head of green broccoli forming, but the rest are still catching up. Climbing beans are coming fast now.

 

My parcel with seeds arrived. It's still July and I'm already planning next season.

Afternoon all. It's another scorching day here with very pleasant 37℃. Next few days will be like today, but still no rain on the sight. Plants are surviving only because I water them every second day. They are still looking good, but don't grow too much on the blazing sun. We started to collect onions, way to early. Some vegetables are over, like green beans and lettuce, and I sown some others for winter. Lot of work, mostly with watering, and hope we will soon have some rain.

Peppers and aubergines are nice and healthy but not too many fruits per plant.





Toms are looking good, but courgettes are almost finish.





Purple French beans



Grapes are ripen a month earlier than usual.



Onions. Those are from the smallest sets which was left after planting. I usually throw them away, but lady which helps my insisted to plant them. She has a smug face now.

@Ante1, as usual the pictures of your crops are just wonderful and how can anyone resist the cheeriness of sunflowers when seen en masse. They always bring a smile to my face anyway so thank you yet again for sharing your pictures with us.
