    :confused: I used to work in a consultency & there were quite a few old things around, some still in use. There was an ink well not too unlike your object HB. It had the different pots for the different colour inks for the Cartographers. Maybe a handwriting person practicing caligraphy might need an ink well like that also................. Just a thought anyway............ [​IMG]

    Dont think so MF as the top piece is holding down those pot type things,could it be an incense burner? or is this in fact part of something larger? [​IMG]

    It is a gadget for getting rid of unwelcome dinner guests. It is placed in the centre of the dining table and the centre piece removed releasing the cups, which are on springs and full of jelly, so splattering the guests.
