    I've just realised that 'gato' is just about the the same in greek. i gata (f) o gatos (m)

    Hi Dave!

    Thanks for the new bit of info re Gato.

    My Gato was born in Portugal over 14 years ago and we brought him back with us after a visit to LofL and t'other. Hubby named him (actually a she) Gateau but we always write Gato, which is the Spanish and Portuguese name for cat as you know.

    To get back to the subject, obviously my guess was incorrect and I am still mulling it over.
